Do we still have to wear masks in gyms?

If you’re vaccinated do you still have to wear one?

I’m thinking of joining an Xsport or Planet fitness.

Yes. It’s indoors.

No, not in Virginia while exercising.

I forgot - Virginia seems to think the pandemic no longer exists.

No one is in the area is doing different rules for vaccinated people. You're not even allowed to, basically. If the gym rule in your area is to mask, it's for everyone. A church in dc recently asked to have a specific section for vaccinated people with loosened restrictions and was told no. When they lift mask restrictions it will be for everyone.

Likely June for mask restrictions being lifted indoors.

VA gyms have been mask optional since they reopened.

Gyms have been open in VA, and, maskless, FOR A YEAR. And covid spread has been negligible and rare in gyms. I get that this doesn't fit your tiny brain's narrative, but as someone who returned (maskless!) in June 2020, it's been impressively safe.

Oh, I assure you, I am not the one with a tiny brain.

But at decreased, now increasing (to full) capacity, right?
I’m ok with this. A gym is not a typically crowded space. It’s not an indoor sporting event or concert.

My gym in Arlington 100% requires and enforces masking. The trainers cannot afford to be sick.

I assure you, yes, you are. But with regards to everything else, there's almost certainly nothing tiny about you.

Seriously, go to the gym. Take off your mask and get a good workout. It's been fine even pre-vaccination.

My VA gym was nearly empty early on, but these days looks just as busy as pre-covid. People still aren't getting sick with covid - but they're getting a thousand other health benefits.

Depend on the gym. State says they don't have to require masks while exercising, but my gym required masks at all times. I am hoping they will drop that policy soon/let people make their own decision.

I started back after being fully vaccinated and am so happy to go to a mask-free setting somewhere. I keep my mask on a lanyard, and when a masked elderly person gets near, I put it back on. But I think my mood has fully recovered as a result of this tiny bit of normalcy.

In my gym not while you are doing cardio but yes while you’re on the floor. Not sure about classes.

You’re pretty far apart when you’re on the cardio machines (I think ten feet) so between our low numbers and vaccination rates, it isn’t risky.
