What is going on at Holton?

Anonymous
We have been considering Holton for a future entry year but are concerned with the themes of two recent posts, which discuss the school making significant changes with seemingly little explanation or concern for parent views (elimination of honors math in MS and the perpetuation of asynchronous days even when school is back in session). What’s behind the recent change in the school’s attitude? I can’t find those themes from past postings about the school and am trying to figure out what’s going on.

Do not bsse your child's future on anonymous posts. Check for yourself + hope your kid is smart enough to get in. Good luck.

If you believed every post on this site, you would neither be in private nor public schools. Not even sure you could home school. Rely on your own discussions with schools/parents.

With many students having stiff 1 hour plus commutes I can see why one day off campus may be an option for high school students.

I cannot believe that "many" Holton students spend an hour getting to school. Perhaps few to none would be more accurate.

If They live in Virginia or Maryland with traffic it could be an hour round-trip.

+1 Seriously. Talk to real parents not anonymous complainers & trolls.

My daughter is in the 10th grade at Holton and would choose it all over again in a heartbeat. We’re an average middle class white family (voted republican prior to 2016) and really don’t see what all of the DCUM outrage and handwringing is about.

No school is perfect (Holton included) but my daughter is working hard and having a great experience- academically and socially. OP, you’ll do well to talk to an actual Holton (and NCS and SR) girl and parent instead of making a major life choice because of endless griping on an anonymous platform.

Offered spots at NCS and Holton. Very good schools either way. Holton’s campus and stellar Administration sealed the deal. HoS listens at Holton.

The PP said many students have an hour commute. “Many” is quite an overstatement to suggest a change in the schedule.

She said occasional. Not regular. So not spa real change in schedule. I’m thinking it will be once or twice a trimester, which would be a welcome break for HS kids.

The asynchronous days are generally 1-2 days a month in the middle of the week. They are not days off. For HS they include a full school day worth of work (often project oriented). It is wonderful to occasionally have a day where students can work independently on their own schedule without having to get up and go to school. We definitely see it as a bonus, not a negative.

This made me laugh! The administration at Holton does not listen at all. And the HoS is so cold and fake. We once loved this school but don’t anymore. It makes me sad to write that but I have to be honest.
