| This is my first cicada season.....how worried should I be about it impacting outdoor camp activities? |
Um, not. |
|
Cicadas will BE a summer camp activity.

+1 to all of this. OP this is something not to worry about but to enjoy! |
+1 What the heck are people imagining? |
| Cicadas are the bomb! Kids LOVE THEM! They are harmless little creatures. It’s not like they are bees or mosquitoes. |
| As worried about everything else. |
| They’ll be gone by the time school gets out. |
It’s a great curriculum piece for my kindergartner right now. She’s playing with them at recess and used the word exoskeleton to point out their casings to me on the walk home. I thought it was a great idea to use them to learn about insects right now. |
| It will only be a big deal if your kid freaks out about bugs |
| They don’t bite or sting OP. What are you worried about. |
| They really aren't that big of a deal. They'll be more of them and you are much more likely to see/hear them this year. Bit life will go on as normal. |
They are disgusting. I would have been terrified as a child and I’m planning on limiting time outside for the next two months. One of my children is not worried at all. The cicadas will make a fascinating addition for her. My other child doesn’t like bugs and this will be an issue at camp. |
Have your child who is freaked out hang out with the kid who is fascinated. Hell, you hang out with the kid who is fascinated. They are bugs. They don't sting or bite or do anything other than eat, procreate, and die. There is no good reason to limit time outside. |
| They will be gone by the time camp starts. |
