Which league is more competitive CCL or EDP ?

And where do they rank for local clubs ?

They're probably equivalent, EDP has different levels of divisions that probably cover the spectrum of ccl1 and ccl2. It might just depend on the age group also, EDP covers how much larger geographical area, so if you look at it as a pyramid structure, the top of the pyramid goes a little higher than CCL because the league covers the entire Northeast from Northern Virginia all the way to Connecticut. So there are going to be some teams in there above CCL level but they are going to be more spread out

No they aren’t equivalent. EDP places you with teams that you will be competitive. CCL places you because you’re in a club. We left CCL because of the bad teams.

CCL is a step above NCSL and below EDP.

CCL 1 is like NCSL Division 2 or 3 or EDP Division 3 or 4. CCL 2 is around NCSL 4 and 5, and all the other divisions of EDP. NCSL Division 1 is probably around EDP Division 2 or 3. EDP Division 1 and 2 are elite. They will beat most NCSL and CCL teams every time. EDP Division one is very very good. It’s disrespectful to say a ccl or NCSL team is better than them. They are elite.

You don't really know about local youth soccer. NCSL D1 is filled with Arlington and Loudoun's D teams, SYC's C teams, Alexandria's B teams, etc.

Agreed. And I wouldn't call EDP division 1 elite either. It typically contains second teams from the top Maryland clubs (Baltimore/Bethesda) and top teams from slightly weaker clubs. The best CCL clubs would likely do very well at most or all age groups in EDP division 1, although the weaker CCL clubs would struggle.

I would agree that on the girls side, the top CCL teams are competitive in EDP. EDP Premier I are comprised of the best non-ECNL/GA teams.

CCL is just not very relevant anymore. But there is a huge gap between bottom barrel teams like NVSC and a top team in the premiership.

I have kids in both CCL and NCSL Division 1. Before teams leave NCSL, maybe especially U12, Division 1 is very strong! It is true that a couple of the strongest NCSL teams like Herndon and Alexandria pulled out of NCSL just a couple of years ago but there are still very strong teams who then often to to EDP or VPL or ECNL and so on. Once all those teams leave, though, NCSL is just not as strong.

I find the strongest teams in CCL 1 to be more competitive than the strongest NCSL teams, but the bulk of them are not, and there are far more weak teams because they don't relegate. There are definitely CCL 1 teams that would be in NCSL 2, 3, or 4.

You really need promotion and relegation, or some kind of team by team approval process, to keep a division somewhat level. I personally think that the idea of CCL is flawed.

I forgot to say that of course CCL also goes downhill once the teams go to NCSL and not just because the teams leave--but also because kids move around, especially in the DC area, and the stronger teams become stronger and the strongish teams become much weaker.

CCL is a poor way to measure strength or quality. No clubs are not strong teams A thru D. They're are more small clubs with much better A teams not in CCL because of pure numbers in the club. NCSL has more than a few D1 teams that are far better than the top CCL teams. They dont have a big enough club to fill out a CCL schedule. I think club size is wrongfully used to measure talent and success way to much. You have too look at it like this. There are many big chain pizza places that get all of the sales, publicity, locations etc. They have a bigger customer pool. However you have many local pizza shops with one single location thats is much better. Many times this is the same with all travel/club sports.
