ATS lottery 2021

Hey! We’re just wondering what our chances are for ATS being #12 on the waitlist for first grade. Do you think the waiting list moves up to double digit, or the odds are slim? We believe that the instructional model of ATS is ideal for our child and would love to get a place.

I would say it's a slim chance on a normal year, but as ATS is moving buildings this summer and some APS families aren't happy with the return to school plans, your child might have a better shot this year.

Slim since it’s for first grade. But probably better this year. Don’t have kids at ATS but I know in general there are families in Arlington that have paid the deposit for private schools and are mulling over their decision. Isn’t there a deadline for when to accept the offer? I think you’ll know more then.

Even for kindergarten they generally don’t get anywhere close to that. I would be curious to know when/how this happened.

Has APS announced how many more students ATS will add next year since they are moving into the larger building? It seems like they should add a class per grade level, but I don't recall hearing this discussed anywhere.

Especially for next year it seems important for the option schools to be fully enrolled and help balance enrollment from neighborhood schools. What are the plans for ATS enrollment at McKinley?

I believe they are adding a 5th K class. They probably intend to grow it in that manner. Class sizes are maxed out. They might be locating more Pre-K kids here, too. That might help other more crowded schools.

I think there will be more spaces. On the playgrounds and ball fields, I've heard many parents are not returning to ATS b/c they are moving out of the area. Covid has changed the nature of work and many are taking advantage of it.
