Yikes. I can't believe they were so stupid as to put this stuff in email. I am someone who generally supports racial equity efforts but this is so unprofessional. By now, any county employee should know their e-mails can be foia'd and made public. Instead of talking about how "privileged" people are they should have been discussing the merits of private school reopening from a public health standpoint. |
| There was already a thread. |
I have been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but those emails are really nasty. Tiffany Ward's too. I'm very disappointed in them both.
~county employee. |
| Tiffany Ward went to the Holton Arms School. Pot calling the kettle black. |
| Gayles is arrogant. Back when the pandemic first started, county health officials, including Gayles, were telling citizens that they did not need to wear a mask since this wasn't airborne. These emails are rude and unprofessional. It always amazes me what people will write in work emails. You have zero right to privacy. |
| All that this Covid crisis has shown me is that most of our elected officials and many teachers hate us and hate our kids. I have such mistrust of local government now that I didn’t have before. |
That is funny. |
| Wow, talk about arrogance. Those emails are obnoxious and patronizing. |
It’s not just hate. It’s gross incompetence. |
I remember that. I also remember thinking. Um, but it is airborn. Have you not read any of the transmission case studies. |
As a former public school teacher, I’ve been anything but surprised. As a current private school parent, I’m glad I didn’t just learn this lesson in 2020. |
Where’s the other thread? All along I had this sneaking suspicion that Dr. Gayles was trying to stick-it-to-someone with his covid response. He seems incapable of a cost-benefit analysis. Does he even have kids? |
And now over a year later we’re still making up for his mistake by overcompensating with masking everywhere, anytime while outside.

Nothing will happen to him but he should be fired. Shows so much bias and discontent for people advocating for their child's education and social well-being. Even if Gayles personally disagreed, that's just repulsive.
This would be an opportunity for Elrich or the Council to actually show some guts and put out some forceful words, but they won't do that either. I can't imagine Elrich doing so, would be nice to see some of the more reasonable Council members do anything. I can think of one or two that would probably want to but won't for the sake of county politics and it being a perceived risk to say anything at all negative about Gayles. |
They all have the same mindset. I am almost certain they see nothing wrong with his comments. |
