Frankly, I'd prefer if they drop the social distancing requirement at recess and the kids still wear masks. It's much harder to keep the kids apart. - a different ES teacher.

My kids say they don’t distance at their school. How does anyone enforce distancing at recess?

It's really hard. We have assigned blocks on the soccer field and a rotation if which class is permitted on the playground equipment on which day.
They can play with a ball or jump rope that is brought from home but not share. (Only a few kids bring toys though since backpacks are heavy enough to topple the k's and 1's) So lots of standing around asking when they get a turn to play for half an hour. We constantly remind them to stay apart be sure talking to a friend outdoors closer than 6 feet is way more dangerous than the 3 feet masked in the building.

And they’re masked or not?

If they are masked this is a bit silly.

Umm that’s just dumb. What school is this?

OP here, that’s a good point. We don’t even try to keep them apart at recess. I do worry about them overheating though. A teammate of mine sent a student in last week because she thought that was the case.

I'd rather have masks and not worry about distancing.

If you take off the masks, how do you keep them apart?

Masked. There are no " mask breaks" except lunch.

We don’t try either. The classes are separated though. At my son’s school they let them play with another class but his group is tiny.

Kids playing outdoors masked really don’t need to be separated.

When did this all get so insane? I can’t.

+1. Two out of the three masked, outdoors, distanced. The first two are much much easier than the third. Sure, kids running around playing soccer likely don't need masks, but the kids (probably mostly girls) who huddle up to talk are in each others' faces. A consistent mask requirement is so much easier for teachers and playground aides. By this point the kids are used to it. Will it be needed by next spring? Probably not. This fall, still the right call until the kids themselves are vaccinated.

I’d rather we follow the science that transmissibility outdoors is nonexistent to negligible and certainly more dangerous than overheating concerns. My 5 yo is constantly chewing on his masks and they get so wet and gross. We have to give him like 4 day for school to change. Our pediatrician offered to right a note for him not wear one outside. He has asthma and she’s worried about kids breathing in air from gross wet masks in the heat.

I'm not the PP and my school is like this as well. Many of the elementary schools are doing it this way.
