| Booked a house for my family of four (2 adults 2 young kids) in Chatham, MA for a week. Will be our first time to Cape Cod. Looking for ideas on things to do in Chatham and also the surrounding towns. We are more than willing to drive around and explore other parts of the Cape. TIA. |

You'll only be there a week and time flies so don't try to have too much on your plate. On the other hand, it is nice to have things to do!
For my back-up plans: I would take a day trip up to Provincetown, it is super cute and you get to see the bay. If you're really desperate there is the Whydah (sp?) Pirate Museum in Yarmouth and the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory does tours (super short but you get chips!) at its factory in Hyannis, and then you could swing by the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port, before walking around Hyannis. You probably need to make sure the museum and factory are open given Covid. Probably the most fun would be to take the fast ferry in the morning from Hyannis to Nantucket, walk around, have lunch/dinner, and then take the ferry back. |
| Definitely cruise up to Nauset Beach. Best beach on the cod IMHO! |

To me the best thing about the Cape is not needing to sightsee or have an agenda. We just relax by the water (ocean or pond), eat ice cream, go for bike rides. If you kids are young this kids fishing trip is nice https://capecodkidsfishing.com/
Personally I would not to go Provincetown or Hyannis, they are kind of far from Chatham and there is no need to waste time driving when you could be relaxing outside. if you have a rainy day there is a great bowling alley in Orleans with an amazing BBQ restaurant attached to it (assuming you are comfortable COVID-wise). Also, definitely go to some Cape Cod baseball games. I am not a huge sports/baseball fan, but something about those games is so magical and you will likely see some future pro players, the quality of the games is very high. https://www.capecodbaseball.org/ "One in every six Major League Baseball players has played in the Cape Cod Baseball League. There are annually 300 active Cape Cod Baseball League Alumni playing in the major leagues and more than 1,250 all-time. Current major leaguers who played in the Cape Cod Baseball League include: Boston Red Sox Chris Sale (Yarmouth-Dennis 2009), Chicago Cub Kris Bryant (Chatham 2011), New York Yankee Aaron Judge (Brewster 2012), Minnesota Twin Josh Donaldson (Harwich 2006), Houston Astro George Springer (Wareham 2009-10), Colorado Rockie Charlie Blackmon (Cotuit 2005), Boston Red Sox Jackie Bradley Jr. (Hyannis 2009-11), New York Met Marcus Stroman (Orleans 2008), Los Angeles Dodger A.J. Pollock (Falmouth 2008) and Boston Red Sox Mitch Moreland (Bourne 2006-07)." |
| If you go up to Eastham the friendly fisherman on rte 6 is great and Nauset ice cream is next door. Or you can check out Sundae School. New Englanders are serious about their ice cream. |
| Whale watching in Provincetown. We go every year and always see whales. |

If you are in Chatham with young kids:
Oyster Pond Tie die on Wed at the church Harding beach bring cash for the candy store catch a baseball game for the anglers mini golf - we like the location in Orleans (cash) my kids lied the bumper boats and go-carts in Harwich Morse Code museum (that is not the name - but you can find it) We did the pirate thing from CBI when the kids were younger the tennis courts near the Anglers field have rackets there for you to borrow the playground near the Anglers field is really well attended |
+1 Yes! This is great! |
| The Drive in in Wellfleet |
|
Second the drive in - they often play Jaws!
Hole in One Donuts Pirate Museum |
This. We'd climb the Pilgram's Monument and then do the sunset whale watching tour. We'd also go to the flea market in Wellfleet (it's at the Drive In) Our Chatham tradition was the lighthouse and the Penny Candy store We went kayaking somewhere near Wellfleet too, but there's probably some places to do it in Chatham as well. |
+1 Great suggestions and real life insight - always something to do! |

| Agree that the best part of going to the Cape is just chilling. That said, I love getting up early for yoga on the beach by the Chatham lighthouse. Also, a visit to Where the Sidewalk Ends bookstore is always fun. |
