Help choose Engineering school: Villanova or Lehigh

Anonymous
DC got into both, plus a few others much further from the area so we are concentrating on these two. No merit at either so cost is similar. How do you choose between Engineering schools? It's greek to us. Thanks!

It shouldn't be we or us. Let them decide what they want and support their decision even if it isn't what you want.

I work with several Lehigh engineers, none from Villanova. I didn’t know Villanova had engineering.

Make sure wherever he/she goes has other majors they are interested in in case the engineering doesn’t work out. Lots of kids enthusiastically start the engineering major and then discover how hard it is and need to find another major.

The people I know who went to Villanova loved it. But, I agree, step aside and let your child make the choice! Maybe visit both again?

Yup, my dad was one of them. He ended up OK though.

OP, as others have mentioned, Lehigh is nationally known for engineering. Villanova is not.

Know several Villanova engineers. They all turned out well. My suggestion is to burden your kid with the least amount of debt as possible.

Has he visited them?
I have a kid at Lehigh, so I’m a little biased, but they feel very different, and a student might prefer one environment over another.

Whenever I see your post, I'm reminded of the teacher in Pink Floyd's "Brick in the Wall" video. Wonder why..

Know many Villanova engineers who are highly successful, but certainly Lehigh is also a leader in this area. Villanova has much more of a community feel, lots of school spirit, personal attention, commitment to service, etc. If that matters to him/her, I'd go Nova.

How this is supposed to be helpful is beyond me.

Lehigh has a great reputation especially with Phila firms. Villonova is known more for business.

Because Villanova is not really known for their engineering and Lehigh is?

According to their CDSs, 13% of recent Villanova grads received engineering degrees, vs. 26% for Lehigh.
