| My 13 yo sprained his ankle. It seems mild and he’s dying to get back to playing, but I’d like to have a PT look at it. We are in MoCo. He’s walking on it pretty well 3 days post injury , can jog lightly, can juggle, has good ROM and we are keeping it in a brace. Any ideas or advice? My husband played soccer in college and is of the just let him play mondset. |
| I wouldn't wear a brace. If it feel OK, have him continue to strengthen and work on range of motion with balancing on a Bosu ball or something equally unstable. |
| Go to an orthopedic and they will tell you what to do. |

Check out www.healthyballer.com they are located in Rockville .
They are great and specialize in young athletes. |
| I wouldn’t rush back too quickly as re-injury can occur especially at the ankles. I typically let it rest for a week depending upon the severity of the ankle sprains. |
I was a soccer player for 20 years (female) and had tons of strained ankles. I’m of the same mindset as your husband. I rolled my ankle this week stepping off curb to avoid someone and back to everything at 51. If there is something else going on (my son had a growth plate fracture in ankle at 10) it won’t get better and you’ll know. But I was told even playing on it then was more of a nuisance than long term damage. They put a cast on 3 weeks and 5 years later he’s never had an issue. I grew up in the “walk it off” era😂 |
| Greater Washington Orthopedic Group is amazing if you wanted an official opinion. |
I can also recommend Healthy Baller They have several PTs that are great. They also have a great staff of performance coaches as well. My son did his ACL rehab there and is now playing college soccer without the need of a brace. |
| Rush it back now, it'll be reoccurring. Get somebody to check this out. |
| Rub some dirt in it and get back out there. |
| clean socks and some Motrin and he'll be good to go |
