For any teachers on here, I urge you to please check the work you are giving kids remotely. My son had a quiz last week that had spelling and grammar errors, questions were worded in a way that made no sense and seemed to aim for confusion. One multiple choice question had duplicate answers as an option. Names used in the questions were hard to even pronounce. After the quiz, the teacher apologized to the class, saying there were errors in the quiz and it was extremely difficult based on what they've been taught. This is 3rd grade. With all the time provided for planning, this is unacceptable. |
The horror..... |
I've had a similar experience with my child. The attention to detail is lacking and there is zero accountability. It's awful. |
Even when they’re not remote this happens. Especially when my kid brings home a “Teachers Pay Teachers” packet—you can spot them because of the cutesy fonts they all use. |
In normal times, with normal, 5 days/week teaching kids in-person with regular hours, I can accept a few mistakes. But now, with all the added time teachers have to plan, working remotely 3 days/week, this is unacceptable. Especially because the entire grade of teachers are using the same materials, how is nobody catching mistakes, proofreading their own work, etc??? |
There are open jobs online please feel free to apply. |
This. I have bought a few things from there. English isn't my first language and I was so glad to find the website. It is full of bad material. |
But a good teacher will be able to weed through the bad material. |
We should include this thread in the FCPS forum. |
My kids are older, and have a 5 year gap, but many years ago when they reached third grade, they both had math worksheets filled with errors. Strange, isn't it? Same school, but different teachers. I wondered whether teachers in that grade kept re-using the same terrible worksheets...
Just one point. It's ethnically prejudiced to complain that names are hard to pronounce! Please don't train your children to think like that. The world will only get smaller, and your kids will have to learn to tread lightly around names all their lives. One of my children goes by his nickname from an Asian country, and even though all his peers have always pronounced it correctly, sometimes teachers have trouble with it - they must overthink it instead of just pronouncing it phonetically. Embrace the names! |
I agree with this point. But to give 3rd graders a quiz with multiple errors, combined with *words* they aren't even able to pronounce, just results in more frustration and confusion. |
I have a feeling we, as parents, are just getting more visibility to these situations, but sadly I don't think its new. |
+1 F off, teacher haters. |
You have no idea how much MORE work and more pressure there is this year than any other year. Just go away. |
The worst is when the correct answer to the math problem is not one is the multiple choice answers. Thankfully my kids are smart and confident but this is probably very confusing to a kid who is not as confident. |
