Private & Independent Schools
Please just the facts and no rants about how unfair it is for a family to take up two coveted spots.
W/l to top three; but, who wasn't?
I know of twins just accepted at Sidwell K
I saw that on a previous post as well: beautiful twin girls. Same that you were referring to?
Question re: twins. We have a boy and girl twin in Pre-K. They have a early June b-day. We are afraid privates may feel the girl is ready and boy is not for K next year (given discrimination against summer boys and pressure to hold back a year). Anyone run into this situation? We would not send them to two different schools-different classes, yes.
Twin boys watilisted at Potomac for K a few years ago. AD told us at the outset we had virtually no chance since we needed two slots.

I know for a fact that Potomac has accepted lots of twins-mostly boy/girl combos or 2 girls though.
We have twins at a Big 3. I think it is BS that folks will say "you will take up two spots" because it is not as if they are offering a discount on the second tuition. I will say that because the prejudice exists - because it is prejudice - you have to apply to more schools and hope that a few of them will uphold their commitment to wanting a sense of community at the school, rather than solely counting slots.

We were at a MD K-8 school and got the new class list. Several weeks later, we were told to add the twin to this class, too. Seemed to us that parents threatened to withdraw the accepted one unless the other twin was accepted, too. Then, a year later, another one of their children was added to an earlier grade.
Seems you have an advantage in some cases if you have multiple kids. |
I know of boy/girl twins where one of the big 3 accepted the girl and not the boy.
Are all your kids at one school? |
To the parents of twins, would you ever put them in different school? Just curious as the decision must be SO hard!
WRT putting them in different schools, you intuitively say no but when one gets accepetd and other does not, you have to ask yourself, "do I give up the acceptance for one or go for it in the hope that sibling preference will kick in the following year?" Judging from this forum, that obviously would not be a good strategy at Sidwell.

There are three sets of twins this year in this year's preschool classes at Langley, so last year's admissions cycle.
