Restaurants near Dulles Airport?

Anonymous
My brother is flying through Dulles on his way to South Carolina, and he planned a 3-hour layover so he could see our family. We'd like to find a restaurant near the airport for dinner. (I thought about having dinner at the airport, but I don't think there are many restaurants outside security.)

Any suggestions?

Reston Town Center is about 5 minutes away. Tons of restaurants there.

Reston Town Center is more than 5 minutes away (I'd plan on 20 minutes each way) and getting in and out plus parking is a pain if you only have 3 hours (IMO).

You could head north on Route 28 to the shopping center with Wegmans and Target. There's a Pei Wei, Cheeburger Cheeburger and a few other fast casual places.

Or you could head to Dulles Town Center which is just a little further north on 28. There are tons of restaurants there including Benihana, Cheesecake Factory, Mimi's Cafe, Macaroni Grill and Red Robin. There's also a food court in the mall.

Enjoy your visit with your brother!

I agree with PP Reston is more than five minutes away! If you head south on 28 to RTE 50 W, there is a Red Robin and Famous Daves as well as Chipotle ,Five Guys and a Thai Place.

Reston Town Center is NOT 5 minutes from the airport!

The shopping center w/ the Wegmans/Target, in addition to what PP mentioned, has a California Tortilla and a kabob place. They're all casual almost-fast food kind of places, not table service, but I think that's probably the closest place to the aiport.

Dulles Town Center is not too much farther if you want a restaurant with table service.

There is also a Marriott on airport property with shuttle service to the main terminal.

Just a thought , isn't there a Harry's Tap Room in the Main Terminal before having to go through security?

yes, apparently there is a Harry's at Dulles. You could call and see if they are before/after security.

This is OP. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

As far as I can tell from the Dulles website, Harry's Tap Room is the only sit-down restaurant outside of security. Has anyone eaten there? Is the food any good, and would it work for a 2-year-old? I'd love to take my bro to Five Guy's (because he lives on the West Coast and has never been), but I don't want to spend too much time in the car when we only have a few hours.

Harry's Tap Room is pretty good. I think you will be fine with a 2 year old there.

The Five Guys on 50 is about 10-15 minutes away depending on RTE 28 traffic.

In Herndon there is an awesome Indian restaurant in the World Gate Center. Go north on exit 10 off the Toll Rd.

I agree that Harry's Tap Room is likely the best way to go. A 3 hour layover is not that long, and I would hesitate to go off site. The food at Harry's is pretty good, and I think that your 2 year old would be fine, esp. with a good walk from the car to the restaurant.
