Recently we were at a playground and it was fairly warm outside, maybe low 70s. All kids were running around and getting visibly hot. One girl around the age of 7-8 walked up and asked us if she can please have some water because she is really thirsty. I asked where her parents were. She pointed to her mom and her friend who were power walking around the playground. When the moms came closer I told them her daughter had asked for water. The mom laughed and said "oh ok she's just being silly".
15 min later the moms are back to power walking and the girl asks somebody else for water again. The mom approaches again and tells her daughter "what are you doing? I don't have water, if you want water we have to go home". Would you have given the girl water or mind your own business? We didn't have any unopened bottles, just the baby's sippy cup and a bottle I had been drinking from. |
| I carry reusable Contigo water bottles and no, I wouldn't have let a non-family member drink from them. |
| If I happened to have an unopened bottle I would have. Otherwise no. |
| No, but would have told her about a water fountain if there was one close. Hopefully her mother will learn to bring water. |
Yup. |
| If I had a spare store bought bottle of water, yes. Her mom sounds like a jerk. |
This. If it were super hot or she looked like she was getting heatstroke I’d give it to her, even from a used bottle. That wasn’t the case before you. |
| I would give a kid water, yes, of course. |

A stranger? No.
I don't always pack a water bottle for a quick trip to a park in our neighborhood on a day that isn't too hot. I try but don't always and we're not talking a multi-hour trip thats a long walk from home. I'd be annoyed if a stranger gave my kid water from their own bottle during a pandemic. If my kid is that thirsty we can walk 2 blocks home and back. |
| Yes I’d give a kid water. The people saying no- this is why this area sucks balls. |
The water fountains are still shut off. |
| Nope. No good deed goes unpunished and there are a lot of crazy assholes in the world. |

There's a pandemic happening. Didn't you get the memo? |
| If there was a way to share water safely- like extra bottle or a cup, yes. But I’d also be more vocal with mom. I’m not above being embarrassing if you’re ignoring your kids needs. The mom should have thought ahead or cut her friend time short to attend to her child. If I were the power walking friend I’d have spoken up as well. Not in a rude way, but directly enough to bust through her preoccupation with her own experience instead of her child’s actual need. Clearly that kid gets blown off often. |
