Other recommendations for a kid who really likes JMU?

Anonymous
Took my kid to visit JMU recently and they really liked it. We were all impressed with the feel of the campus, the students we met, and the variety of programs offered. Academically, JMU is a pretty good match as well (some of the other Virginia schools would be more of a reach). Can anyone recommend others with similar size/feel/range of programs? Doesn’t have to be in Virginia but within maybe 5-6 hour drive of DC. Liberal arts focus - thanks in advance.

JMU and it's vibe is pretty hard to beat for your criteria. I might say ECU, PSU, WVU, Pitt and a bit further, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and Marshall...

University of Lynchburg- while smaller, they attract a similar student.

No one wants to go to a place named "Lynchburg".

They really need to change the name, and yes I know how it got it's name.

Than why do you want change the name if you know the history?

I feel like many kids I hear apply to JMU, U Mary Washington, VCU, and Christopher Newport.
