PP here -also Indiana and Miami (Ohio).

They really need to change the name, and yes I know how it got it's name.

So then you understand the name comes from the founder of Lynchburg, John Lynch? Are you suggesting everyone with that last name needs to change it? Grow up.

Ain't getting in there with typical JMU stats.

JMU is much harder this year

OP here - thanks everyone. We had thought of Miami (Ohio) but it’s a bit far, USC and Indiana also seem a bit out of range. Delaware, WVU, ECU and UNC Charlotte seem like good suggestions - will look in to those and maybe Pitt. We had thought of the other Virginia schools but they just don’t seem like they’d have the same size/feel as JMU. Welcome any further thoughts.

+1 If JMU is not a huge safety for kid, they do not have chance to get into The U.

Another vote for Pitt, esp due to rolling admission. Also U Delaware

Hey, OP, I happen to have a copy of the 2020 Fiske Guide, which lists “overlaps” for each school.

The overlaps for JMU (not sure what all this is based on, but still...):

App State
Clemson
College of Charleston
Grand Valley State (I’ve never heard of this school)
Illinois State
George Mason
UVA
Va Tech

I don’t know why the guides all do this overlap, when the stats don’t line up.

Meh, plenty of kids apply to both. I did, decades ago (UVA as a match and JMU as a safety). Probably doesn’t make sense for OP’s kid, based on her posts, but it’s what Fiske lists, nonetheless.

+1 My DS applied to JMU (safety), VT (likely), UVA (reach). Lots of kids do the same. Got into JMU and VT. Going to VT but JMU was a strong alternate if he'd been caught up in all the VT waitlisting this year.

Bullcrap. People say that every year. Wait until the CDS comes out. The acceptance rate will still be over 70% and the 75th percentile ACT will still be under 30.
