How accurate was your EDD with pregs #1?

I'm trying to book my mom's flight to come to the US to be with me for the first few weeks and trying to guess what's the best option.
Due to visa regulations she can't stay more than 8 weeks so every single day is important. I don't want her to arrive too early and go home when I still need her, also I don't want her to arrive after the baby is born. I just wish I could see the future right now
TIA

Mine was spot on, delivered at 9:06 am on the EDD. However, I hear that this is very unusual and that you should plan for two weeks before or two weeks after - with after being more likely for #1.

You're going to be rolling the dice no matter what....if you really want her there for the birth, if that's more important than having her later (which to me, I wanted my mom after the baby was born, not during), than have her come five or six days before your DD.

My due date was a Saturday and I went into labor Wednesday night (middle of the night). Baby born 5 pm Thursday.

Baby always measured big, but didn't really drop much and I wasn't particularly far along in the effacement or dilation category. My water broke and then contractions started.

I DO believe in the full moon theory -- it was true for me; the night I went into labor there was a full moon. Some believe there is something to the theory that a full moon makes womens' water break and go into labor -- the whole moon/tide thing.

So maybe see if there is a full moon in the week before or after your DD..

OP, if it is really important for you to have her there for the birth, I'd go ahead and schedule her to come two weeks beforehand. If you haven't had the baby, and you probably won't, she can help with last minute preparations, cooking and freezing meals, etc. Even if yuo went two weeks late, she could still be here a fullk 4 weeks after baby is born. After that, you really should not need too much help. And if you are early or on time, she will be there later.

I agree that two weeks before the due date is the safest bet, but there really is no way to tell. I have several friends who went almost two weeks past their due dates so that could mean your mom is around for a month with no baby yet! I also have friends who delivered unexpectedly three weeks before the due date.

Unfortunately, there's just no way to know for sure. Mine came a week early the first go around and we'll see what happens this time.

There's no way for you to predict this. If you're looking for anecdotal evidence, I started labor on my due date and delivered the next day.

I had my mother come one week before my due date assuming that with a first time birth I might deliver late. I ended up going almost 2 weeks past my due date before finally opting for a c-section. I'm glad she was there for the birth and she got to go to my last few OB and sonogram appointments.

One of the first ladies was right, only 5 percent of women deliver on their due date. Personally, my son was 11 days before the EDD. There are some home remedy tricks you can try to break your water and go into labor: (this may be a little vulgar) nipple stimulation, sex but its not the act, its the sperm that irritates the sack, spicy foods, theres also some herbal tea mixes of household herbs that sometimes work and im sure you could find recipes online. also walking will help, the gravity and motion will help the baby fall down better and the more the baby moves down the sooner you can get to business.

It is my understanding that first time moms on average deliver 1 week late.

I delivered 1 day before my due date - water broke. One week earlier the only progress I had made was 1 cm dilated and I asked my doctor to stripe my membranes. I also walked a lot in the last weeks, but it didn't seem to help since as I said, I was only 1cm dilated 7 days before my due date.

I did have sex in that last week, including the night before my water broke - had sex at 1am, water broke at 4am (I even worried about a possible infection since you are not supposed to put "anything" there after the water breaks, and it was so close, but all was fine).

I was not "eager" for the pregnancy to end, but wanted to avoid an induction or c-section.

I delivered #1 two weeks and 1 day before my EDD. Nurses said the due date was off because DC was clearly older than 38 weeks.

I agree that having your mom come two weeks early is a good idea.

No way to predicate, as PPs have said... but I went into labor in the evening five days before my EDD and had my baby the next morning. My dad is overseas and we had to pick a date for him to fly in - we were hoping I would be late but it didn't happen and he didn't get there until a week after baby was born. He only had a two week window, though... you're lucky - your mom has 8 weeks. I would absolutely want her there for the birth and would plan for 2 weeks before your EDD - although you could still go into labor earlier... but the chances are slim and at least you'll know she will be here in time.
