I’ve lost all faith that aps will actually get kids back in seats 5x/week this fall, since Loft said that the reduced 3ft distancing requirement won’t actually increase capacity much.

What’s the hope that Northam actually signs SB1303?

he doesn't actually need to sign it. As long as he doesn't veto it, it becomes law

If he doesn’t sign it, it sends a signal to districts that the state will not go after districts who don’t comply. That means parents will have to sue to get districts to do it.

Isn't he due to sign it by tomorrow?? Feels like this is the only faith we have to get kids back full-time.

If he is going to take action, his deadline is 11:59 p.m. on 3/31.

If he does nothing, it still becomes law (no pocket veto in VA). However, it sends a signal that his attorney general/the VDOE may not be enforcing it very strongly. That would leave individual parents having to sue to get it complied with. Much better if he just signs the danged thing.

1) call 804-786-2211 and leave a message and/or
2) submit a comment here: https://www.governor.virginia.gov/constituent-services/communicating-with-the-governors-office/ and/or
3) contact your delegate and state senator and ask him or her to encourage the governor to sign it: https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov (after all, it passed by wide margins and with broad bipartisan support)

Our only hope is the emergency clause, for goodness sake. At least in Arlington. Seeing as our Superintendent and SB can't get their act together. For those that are not supportive, luckily they have an option to remain remote. Enough already.

Duran said we are going back 5 days in the fall. Schools are starting to plan for it too. Duran has always been great about communicating and has been following through on what he’s said- even if you didn’t agree with his plans.
