Good. He's governing an entire (large) state. There are other issues besides this one. I hope he doesn't insert the emergency clause.

Our only hope is the emergency clause, for goodness sake. At least in Arlington. Seeing as our Superintendent and SB can't get their act together. For those that are not supportive, luckily they have an option to remain remote. Enough already.

Duran said we are going back 5 days in the fall. Schools are starting to plan for it too. Duran has always been great about communicating and has been following through on what he’s said- even if you didn’t agree with his plans.

I'm sorry, but Duran said he **plans** to go back 5 days in the fall. Given his lack of leadership and planning thus far, I do not have faith he has a legit plan in place. Until he says there is a plan and schools WILL open for 5 days in the fall, I am leaning on the Governor to make full-time in-person learning mandatory.

+1 There have been SO many excuses this year as to why we can’t manage what many other school districts have managed. I think without legal mandate we’re going to get more of the same in the fall. I’m totally anticipating APS trying to do half days or stick with hybrid or something stupid instead of getting kids back 5 full days.

So they must offer five days a week in person with a real human teacher teaching in the room, but it could still be concurrent, right? For kids who want 100% DL?

100% full-time, distance learning will be an option. I'm trying to figure out what the "In-person" mandate looks like..

They kept in the part that in person instruction has to involve an inperson teacher, right?

Governor made no changes. That part is in. Virtual is optional and can be done however districts like, including concurrent.

Is that required in the bill? It should be limited to students with proof of medical necessity.

Yes. No changes were made other than not signing it with an emergency clause. The reopening groups are fairly confident in the text of the bill, which makes me feel confident, but then I’m not confident on there being any legal repercussions for districts that don’t follow the law, given that Northam can’t be re-elected and the slate of governor candidates is ....... shall we say, less than enthusiastic about full time school.

I hope we don’t go with that option.

We are going back 5 days in the fall, exactly as Duran already planned.

I'll believe this when it happens. Until then, I'm hoping SB1303 means full-time, in-person learning with an in-person teacher. So ridiculous we are praying for this.

The full text of the bill allows teachers to teach from a remote location. There are all these “notwithstanding” clauses that really water it down. Full text as passed:

PP here. Yeah, I was excited for the bill but it really doesn’t do anything as written. A million loopholes for teachers and school districts.

Yep. It's 5 days with a lot of caveats.
