First Jefferson cup for me.
I was looking at the U16 showcase results today (http://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=79389&Gender=Boys&Age=16) and noticed that - Wake FC 05 Blue appears to have been entered in the Boys U16 elite (i.e. 2nd) division. - Despite that, they played a game against Richmond United ECNL BU16 who are entered in the championship (i.e. 1st) division. Amusingly Wake FC won that game 1-0. - Tomorrow Pitt Greenville (championship division) will play a game against Maryland United (superior division i.e. 3rd). Is this sort of thing normal? It seems to me that it would make the result tables a bit meaningless if some of the teams in the championship division get to play opponents from lower - presumably weaker divisions, and conversely some of the teams in the lower divisions have to play a game against presumably stronger competition. Has anybody seen this before? It also occurred to me that this was the result of having an odd number of teams in the championship division - but then why didn't they choose to put the odd number in a middle division where the division above and below would be expected to make less difference? Seems odd to put the odd team in the top division... |
the management of jeff cup, the brackets, and the lack of coaches for the past few years - have made this "showcase" irrelevant for most top teams. |

I don't think anyone really expects "champions" to emerge from the showcase parts of Jeff Cup. The only goal is to make the games competitive. |
It still seems to attract quite a few teams from a fairly wide area. Obviously the Dallas cup is much bigger, but are there other showcases here on the East coast which are more significant? |
| I see nothing wrong with how Jeff Cup handled this situation. To assume that team from second bracket wont beat team from first bracket is naive. |
OP here. I didn't assume that. |
| The changes to the brackets and games were mostly due to teams dropping out at the last minute due to Covid. We had games rescheduled at the last minute as well. |
OP. Yes - this makes sense to me. |
