Is this sort of thing normal?  It seems to me that it would make the result tables a bit meaningless if some of the teams in the championship division get to play opponents from lower - presumably weaker divisions, and conversely some of the teams in the lower divisions have to play a game against presumably stronger competition.

Has anybody seen this before?

It also occurred to me that this was the result of having an odd number of teams in the championship division - but then why didn't they choose to put the odd number in a middle division where the division above and below would be expected to make less difference?  Seems odd to put the odd team in the top division...

It still seems to attract quite a few teams from a fairly wide area.  Obviously the Dallas cup is much bigger, but are there other showcases here on the East coast which are more significant?[/quote]
