Can someone from Loudon or any other district tell me what they are doing re: lunch? It should be outside as much as possible per CDC guidelines, but what if it is raining or whatever? Are people utilizing the lunchroom and spacing kids? ACPS is picking and choosing which CDC guidelines they follow and it is confusing and maddening! Meanwhile, kids are suffering and will be until we can get the damn schools open in a somewhat normal fashion. |
Fixed that for you. |
Dr. Hutchings, is that you?! Yup, we can't do anything until 2022. Kids definitely need to be out for two whole years. Just a big old problem and now that teachers are vaccinated and community spread is down, we certainly should keep kids home on screens. |
Ah no, schools need to reopen. With will all the money now given to schools to open, use some of it and put it tents to have space for kids to eat lunch. Figure something OUT! |
This is snarky and not helpful. Schools have been open elsewhere since the beginning of the school year so it is productive to look at how they do it. My friends child has been in school full time all year. They alternate eating lunch and recess (half the class eats while the other half is at recess). During bad weather they do the same but indoor recess and those kids have masks on while the others are eating. They’ve had 2 covid cases all year the occurred outside of school and no community spread. Seems like ACPS is looming for problems not solutions. |
Both my kids said they're eating lunch in the cafeteria anyway (at separated desks) not in the classroom. Honestly, I've accepted that this school year is what it is. I just want them to switch to the lower standard by August and have 5 day school in Fall. |
+1 And before some knucklehead gets snarky, I am a parent. |
I’m in Loudoun with hybrid kids and I’m not sure what they are doing. ES I think will be fine at 6’ for lunch since only 2 classes are back per grade. Not sure what secondary will do. Maybe add an extra lunch period? |
In Loudoun we have the same issue, which is why we can do 4 day with the current hybrid but can’t add more. There may be room in the classes but lunch is stricter since they can only eat in the lunchroom and have to be 6 feet due to unmasking and viral load. So our capped participation number is what we can handle in the cafeteria for each lunch block x4. It maxes us out to about 250 kids in the school a day. More than that and lunch is a serious issue. This is what admin told me when I asked could more kids come in. It’s lunch that’s the linchpin of the whole thingZ |
See above post calling PP snarky and unnecessary. |
You're an ass. Also -it's only public school kids that are suffering. Private school kids are doing just fine. I'm not sure when it was deemed acceptable to place the entire burden of this goddamn pandemic on the backs of kids and parents and kids that can't afford private schools. Our society sucks. |
It's pretty much the same in APS, except we're blaming it on bus routes and changed schedules. People can throw money at tents but many are on backorder and the good ones need are pricey. |
There’s 10 weeks left in the school year. Tents aren’t happening. Neither are any magical 5 day plans. |
Absolutely right. Any parent who thinks ACPS will have a 5 day plan in the fall is deluding themselves. |
Fall yes. This year no. |
