How late were you?
Were you induced? How late would your doctor/MW have let you go? Did you do any of the old wives tricks to help get labor going? Did you feel like anything worked? I'm 40weeks and 2 days with my second (my first was born at 40weeks3days) and I'm getting impatient! Thanks

5 days late.
no induction. MW allowed 42 weeks. i didn't really do any tricks -- just took EPO daily from about 36 weeks. |

40w2d. Water broke. No special tricks.
My OB said we wouldn't even start talking induction until the 41st week appt, most likely not earlier than 41w3d (which I believe is the average for a FTM). Hang in there, the last few days are the hardest but you can do it! |

41 weeks 1 day with #1
42 weeks 2 days with #2 Induced with both Midwives were okay with 41 weeks but not longer Induction with #1 took about 18 hours, induction with #2 took 36 hours I did every trick in the book except for castor oil. Sex, evening primrose oil, spicy food, walking, pineapple, nipple stimulation . . . nada. |

DC #1 born on DD
DC #2 6 days late Dr offered to induce 4 days post due date as I was a "good" candidate - I declined as I wanted a non-medicated delivery (if possible) and thought the contractions associated with prescriptive induction would be challenging to manage. For both of my deliveries I walked a significant amount the day I went into labor. For DC #1 - walked all over the zoo. For DC #2 - walked all around the tidal basin during the Cherry Blossom festival. |

I completely understand your impatience! I was 10 days late. Delivered at 41W3D.
Yep, was induced. After a perfect, textbook pregnancy, I had an awful delivery experience. Doctor scheduled induction at 41W1D but due to some scheduling mix-up, I was called in a day earlier. I ate Korean food because I heard that spicy food helped induce labor. Not exactly. The first time I had Korean food at about 39W, the baby did indeed drop noticeably. The next time I had it several days later, nothing happened. I tried the walking trick, too, to no avail. Ditto sex. Ditto nipple stimulation. (For my next one, I will not try any of the tricks. I will be thankful that the baby isn't premature.) In the end, nothing worked but a C-section. |
Thanks everyone! How much EPO did you take? A doula friend recommended DH use is it as a lubricant during sex, so I have some, but haven't taken it orally. Thanks! |
| Had my first at 41 weeks 6 days. I was not induced - my water broke and I was holding my baby 8 hours later. My Dr. was fine letting me go to 42 weeks. After that he would do a non-stress/US test to determine the health of the baby and placenta. I was going on fairly long and rigorous walks every day, eating spicy food, scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees, doing yoga. I don't really think any of this works -- the baby will come when he/she is good and ready. |

41 weeks, 5 days with #1
41 weeks, 4 days with #2 In both cases, inductions were set for 41 weeks 6 days. My OB really wasn't comfortable letting things go past 42 weeks. I have a "theory" on this. Having just gotten pregnant with my third, I have read about how most women ovulate between the 10th and 14th day of their cycle. I was tracking my ovulation and I ovulate pretty regularly on the 18th day of my cycle. Since the due date is calculated from the first day of your last period... A woman who gets her period on the same day as I do... but ovulates on the 10th day of her cycle, will actually conceive a 8 days earlier than I will. So it makes sense that my babies are born (all things being equal) 8 days past hers. Just an interesting thought. I think most medical practices will not want to wait past 42 weeks. I didn't try any special things to get them out. I was too huge to have sex... but I've heard that works. Good luck. Hope he or she comes soon! |
Yep, that's why due dates based on LMP are really just a guess/estimate. If you track your cycle and have an open-minded practice, you can often convince them to go with your true ovulation date as opposed to the standard 14 day one. |
if i remember right, i think i took 2 or 3 per day. there's no risk to baby. i have no idea if it helped... but i figured it couldn't hurt. good luck to you.
and i agree with PP about conception date. with my first, i went with LMP b/c i didn't keep very good track of my ovulation date. this time, i know that i ovulated on day 19 (it was a very busy month with traveling and family and visitors, and i absolutely without a doubt know when we had sex... and boy was i surprised that i ovulated that late, but that's a whole 'nother story). so, long story short, i just told my OB that my LMP was 14 days before the date on which i know we conceived b/c i didn't want to worry about pressure when i hit my "due date", knowing that the due date calculated on a day 14 ovulation would be early by 5 days. |
I haven't yet given birth, but I know I conceived no earlier than about the 20th day of the cycle, maybe even later! and my cycle is 28-29 days. I know this because this was the only day when we weren't "careful". So I would expect the baby to come out at least a week late...but who knows! I will write in this topic once I have my baby

| What is EPO? and why take it from week 36? at this time it is not very clear if I go past my due date or not, right? |
| For EPO dosage, my practice has you take 1500 mg every day starting at 36 weeks. I take 500 mg with each meal. I'm 39 wks now, so fingers crossed... |
| EPO = Evening Primrose Oil. Theory is that it helps promote cervical ripening (contributes to prostaglandin creation), but it takes a little while to work its magic. |
