Wow...I am old but still learning! where can one get EPO?
I also read that sperm is a good source of prostaglandins which help prepare your cervix for labor, it made my DH very happy - we have sex almost every day so he has an additional reason to remind me "to take my medication"

I was induced 5 days after my due date, at my request. They would have let me go approx. 10 days, they said. But, i was ready to cry when they told me that. I ended up with a 9.5 pounder (and I am not a large person) via a c-section (after a long labor). None of the old wives tricks helped me. When I was induced, I was not dilate or effaced. I was fine with how all of it went down. No regrets. |

16 days late. I'd been charting and the due date was accurate.
Induced That was as late as we were all comfortable going (I had an OB). I tried every natural remedy out there--sex, walking, castor oil, nipple stimulation, acupressures, acupuncture, etc. No, I don't think anything worked. Castor oil did irritate my uterus but the contractions were not productive. |

I bought EPO at Target. Drugstores probably have it too. It's a pill, shelved with all the vitamins/supplements. Try an archive search - there was a good thread a few mos ago but I can't dig it up.
> How late were you? #2 came at 41w0d >Were you induced? Not via pitocin. >How late would your doctor/MW have let you go? A MW -- 42 weeks before pitocin induction. At 40-6 we discussed the options and planned to try them all over the course of the next week, including sweeping the membranes, castor oil, cervadil, foley balloon, and finally pitocin. She swept the membranes at that appt, started having contx, was in labor by that night, had baby next AM. >Did you do any of the old wives tricks to help get labor going? Did you feel like anything worked? I took EPO orally and vaginally. Walked a lot, ate pineapple and spicy foods... Lots of sex! Don't think any of that really worked. |
Good idea! I was 40 weeks 5 days with mine. OB would have "allowed" 42 weeks but I was determined not to induce Water broke in the morning, baby came the next day. Labor was short, didn't go into actual labor until several hours after water broke, which was kind of nervewracking. No special tricks -- except some sex (but not like, every day). |
I was due on November 11..I was induced 10 days late on the 20th. My baby was conceived on the 20th of February. I tried walking a lot and some red raspberry leaf tea. Nothing worked..we had to evict the baby
|
| And how long would an average OB be comfortable not inducing after the water breaks? |
|
#1: 9 days overdue, not induced
#2: 7 days overdue, induced. Broke my water at 3:00 and had baby at 3:30! Tried it all with both kids: - membrane stripping - sex - spicy curry - gin and tonic I think #2 would also have come day 8 or 9 if I had waited but my crap OB kept telling me baby was big so we should get it out. Turned out baby #2 weighed less then baby #1 at 8.2. So much for science. |
| Wow, gin and tonic is on the list of induction methods too? I would love to use it -so much time since I last had alcohol (sometimes I take a sip or two and then feel terribly guilty - so I crave for guilt free alcohol!) |
| 16:16, EPO is available at Whole Foods. They carry their own as well as a name brand. They're with the vitamins. |
| I am the poster who asked about EPO. Wonder if I should just start taking it regardless, or should I consult my OB first? |
| Never hurts to consult your OB, but EPO is pretty widely used. You could always start on it and then mention at your next appointment (assuming you're at least 36 wks, see your OB weekly, and haven't had any preterm complications). |
| I was 10 days late. The day before my scheduled induction, I went into labor. I walked around. A lot. Not sure if that made the difference. |
| I went to 42w, the longest my midwives would allow. I tried EVERYTHING to get labor going. Stripping membranes, EPO (oral and vaginal), sex, nipple stimulation, massage, walking 5 miles a day, etc. I started early labor on my own, but still needed pitocin (because they wouldn't let me go past 42w). |
| I'm the G&T PP. My mom always tells this story of calling the dr. when she was having contractions with my older sister and the doc. saying 'have a martini and come to the hospital when they are 5 minutes apart.' And she did! So it was 1969, but the story is so old school romantic to me. Anyway, very weak G&T for me at 41 weeks plus. at that point it could have been just tonic and tasted great! |
