Elementary school is not for parents. It is for elementary aged children. We should all be happy that it's a great place for kids. Find your own hobbies if you are bored, or join the PTA. What on earth do you think a school should be doing for a grown adult?

Yes please do share. What should be done for parents? I thought having a great environment for a child was doing something amazing for parents. Are people that selfish that that isn't enough?

Maybe some parents need the ECE teachers to help them with manners by leading some kind of politeness workshop!

Parent engagement is what? To tell me to stay away...just makes me wanna hang-around a little closer.

While the school is ultimately about the child, if it doesn't make me as a parent feel good, welcome and involved, I would never trust them with my child...especially a 3 or 4 year old. Not saying LT does not do this, but to say that the school is not about parents is entirely incorrect.

Agreed! We are an in-boundary family that just started PS-3, and it gave me great hope that we might be able to stay for the long haul. There were a ton of parents forming committees to work on various projects (gardens, grant writing, sports teams, etc.) that will make the school even better. The principal doesn't give me warm fuzzies, but to be honest, I don't remember any of the principals from my childhood being sweet, preschool teacher types. Principals are administrators, and she seems to be keeping the administration train running, so I can't complain.

There is a parent welcome center at the front of the building (it was the principal's idea to include this in the architectural plans).

Two lovely ladies from the PTA are there most mornings and afternoons to talk with parents, encourage involvement, discuss suggestions, and facilitate overall participation!

Agreed! We are an in-boundary family that just started PS-3, and it gave me great hope that we might be able to stay for the long haul. Of course you can't complain about freaking PreS-3. Hardly anybody does, even the Potomac School, CHD, Sidwell etc. bound. How many times have we heard this tired mantra, if just on this thread? Sure, you might stay for the long haul (do I hear 3rd grade?). I'd give you around a 20% chance, at least if you're from a professional family with a six-figure income. It's not a great school, and can't be under any development paradigm DCPS is currently offering. Make it better, knock yourself out, be our guests. Come on, only the Maury, SWS and Brent families are likely to stay.

What exactly makes PS and PK better than the rest of the school? I have heard on this thread that these programs are EXCELLENT. Is it the teachers?
