Also, Trump is acting like Putin. Putin gathers compromising information on prominent business executives. He then blackmails them into (1.) supporting Putin politically by promising to never oppose him or fund rivals, (2.) giving Putin a piece of their business empire (Putin reportedly demands 50% of profits), and (3.) pledge undying loyalty to Putin.

It's pretty clear Trump is using the Inquirer to shake down and pacify his rivals.

And Bezos was targeted for political reasons - Trump and/or Saudi Arabia wanted him and his newspaper to shut up.
