Who knows what would happen in a 5-candidate race (Biden, Trump, Kennedy, West, Romney)? Right now, Trump is on track to win.
If you believe a poll a year out that says that 22% of African Americans will vote for Trump and so will 40% of the youth. Really. Really.
So many of you are working so hard to get Trump back in office. You really love authoritarianism.
What poll says that? Trump is ahead in all of the key battleground states in a New York Times poll.
Yeah, that’s the poll I’m referencing. Open it up and look at some of the assumptions they’re making; ask yourself if it seems logical.
Then read the accompanying article and ask yourself why they only spoke to Republicans and had the audacity to call them Democrats.
In other words: I wouldn’t put much stock in that poll and if I were you I wouldn’t try to pretend like the GOP hasn’t lost on abortion and isn’t still obsessed with it.
With the exception of Michigan, Trump is also leading in every swing state according to the Bloomberg poll.
Abortion is a state issue not a national one. The Supreme Court has decided.
If the Republicans decide to emphasize a get out the vote strategy in 2024, Biden is toast. It is time to look at other options like Manchin.
If you really believe the bolded, then you are insanely naive and out of touch. Abortion rights have been supported in every state election since Dobbs. And the legislators in red states have still sought to block the will of the voters. Ohio is a perfect example of this.
Federal abortion rights legislation is on the ballot.
Yes, you are making my point. Each state will decide on abortion rights.
Congress can barely fund the Government. It is very unlikely that any Congress will get it together to pass major legislation.
If by "Congress" you mean the Republicans, then sure. If the Dems had enougn votes, they would pass legislation addressing women's health rights as well as immigration.
The Dems had control of Congress and the White House under Clinton, Obama, and Biden, and never got any of this done.
Roe was still in effect and wasn't threatened. There wasn't anything to "get done"
As to immigration, yes, they passed a bill in the senate, but GOP speaker ryan refused to bring it to the house floor.
Anyone who could count knew that there were 5-6 votes to overturn Roe during the Trump Administration. Yet Democrats did nothing in Congress in 2021 and 2022 to pass legislation unlike what many states had already done. During the Obama Administration, nothing was done on immigration despite Democrats controlling both the House and Senate (before there was a Speaker Ryan).
This is why we need a third party.
Our two party system has worked well in the past. What's going on now is just matter of very poor leadership in the two parties that control our two party system. Those two parties need to undergo significant transformation or they need to be dissolved and replaced by progressive and conservative parties of another name. If our two parties nominate Trump and Biden again, there has to be some kind of backlash from the American people against them or else they'll continue to walk all over us and we'll never have a fit president again.
Both sides!
I agree! How do we get rid of them?
They were nominated to run. Focus on the primary if you want a different candidate. No third party candidate will win the presidency. The function of the third party, in effect, is to spoil the election for the Dem or the GOP candidate and allow the other to win.
I’ve often said that I admire the GOP shills’ commitment to their bit. They love the GOP even though it’s rank garbage, but they know no one else likes it. They know they have to slag off on the Democrats as being equally bad.
Not falling for it. It’s the Democrats and their love of rule of law, equal rights, progress for all or the Fascist GOP. That’s the choice. As you say, PP, no third party is going to change anything except for getting the GOP back in power.
"Democrats" aren't the problem and neither are Republicans for that matter. Our rotten political landscape is due to disgustingly poor leadership within the parties and those working behind the curtains at the DNC and RNC. The proof of this is in the pudding. Taste it. Open your eyes. We had the worst president in American history followed up by the second worst president in American history. It isn't the fault of the people these two were elected. If the parties had their poop together, Trump and Biden would have never been seriously considered (maybe Biden 20 or 30 years ago when he was in his prime and competent). Stop blaming the people. We are better than this.
Biden and Trump received 155 million votes combined in 2020. They will get a lot more votes in 2024. Turnout in 2020 was 67%. Third party share of the total popular vote was less than 2%. If there is a groundswell of support for radical change to our current 2-party system, I’m not seeing it.
There is a groundswell of support for someone other than Trump or Biden being elected in 2024. The few remaining Trump and Biden supporters that have a habit of denying facts will surely deny that fact as well, but the rest of will keep hoping, praying, and searching for a legitimate presidential candidate.
While that may be true, ultimately barring death, people will have three choices: Biden, Trump or third party, which = Trump.
If this is the case we must all hope, pray, and beg for Trump or Biden to either choose to back out of the race or be forced to back out of the race for some reason. The health of our nation is in the balance.
If Biden is reelected, how does that negatively impact the health of the nation? Even if he serves only one day, and Kamala Harris becomes president with his administration in place, things will proceed as they are now.
The only thing that negatively impacts the health of the nation is if Trump wins, and unleashes his retribution on the 75% of the country that hates him.
"If Biden is reelected". The "if" is the problem. We need certainties with a candidate that can keep Trump out of office. Biden gives us uncertainty. It wouldn't be difficult to find a candidate that would give us certainty of a victory over someone as awful as Trump.
A moderate pro-choice male. That is who can win the swing states and the swing states decide the president.

Because people in Michigan, who elected Whitmer twice as governor, are too sexist to vote for Whitmer and they'd rather vote for Trump or Biden because they are awesome men and way more fit for office than Whitmer. Yea, I gotcha. Brilliant you are.

Because people in Michigan, who elected Whitmer twice as governor, are too sexist to vote for Whitmer and they'd rather vote for Trump or Biden because they are awesome men and way more fit for office than Whitmer. Yea, I gotcha. Brilliant you are.
2016.
Michigan went trump. Wisconsin went trump. Pennsylvania went trump. Arizona went trump.
That is what the voters did. Yammering out insults about brilliance has nothing to do with it.

If Romney was at the top of the ticket, he would be more likely to get Republican/Independent votes than Democrats support him. That would hurt Trump not help him. Most voters do not cast their vote based on the VP nominee with perhaps some exceptions (LBJ helping JFK in Texas).
Gretchen Whitmer would crush it in the swing states and would crush Trump. Take your sexism and shove it.

Hopefully they won't go running back to trump but it sure would be nice if we had a nominee that was guaranteed to destroy Trump in a landslide victory. Those nominees are out there. Just need Biden to do the right thing and step down.

So… basically Biden.
Face it. Pretty much all of you pretending that there’s some mythical Democrat you could support are Republicans. We can all see this; you’re not fooling anyone. It is only “Democrats” who always want someone else. You get Obama? You wanted Hillary. You get Hillary? You wanted Bernie. You get Biden? You wanted someone else.
Did you ever see the 1960 Pollyanna? You’re Agnes Moorehead’s character. Always wanting something else (but it kind of being irrelevant because she was taking charity and you aren’t actually a Democratic voter).

If Romney was at the top of the ticket, he would be more likely to get Republican/Independent votes than Democrats support him. That would hurt Trump not help him. Most voters do not cast their vote based on the VP nominee with perhaps some exceptions (LBJ helping JFK in Texas).

Gretchen Whitmer would crush it in the swing states and would crush Trump. Take your sexism and shove it.
You again. Hi. Just reread the last time we went over this.
Trump or Biden will be the candidates regardless if you or I approve so choose wisely.
Yes, they did go Trump in 2016 and they have a chance of going Trump in 2024 if Biden is Trump's only competition. Whitmer would crush Trump in all of those states. Not rocket science.
Hope you are correct. Unlikely we will ever know. But trump is a proven loser against Biden in those states and that was before January 6th and the destruction of roe.
The voters in those mid-western states that went back and forth from Obama to Trump to Biden can be fickle. Economic prosperity hasn't been as widespread in many areas of the mid-west as it has elsewhere over the past 30 years and those voters typically are receptive to campaign promises of great change for the better. It's possible enough people in Pennsylvania or Michigan could buy into Trump's lies to get him elected again if their choice is between Trump and Biden. Trump would stand no chance in those states against a quality Dem candidate.

Is it possible that Whitmer looks like a strong candidate because she hasn’t been bombarded relentlessly by Fox News for the past 3 years? You really think there’s nothing in her record or her past that Fox News couldn’t latch onto?

Gretchen Whitmer would crush it in the swing states and would crush Trump. Take your sexism and shove it.
You again. Hi. Just reread the last time we went over this.
Trump or Biden will be the candidates regardless if you or I approve so choose wisely.
Yes, they did go Trump in 2016 and they have a chance of going Trump in 2024 if Biden is Trump's only competition. Whitmer would crush Trump in all of those states. Not rocket science.
Is it possible that Whitmer looks like a strong candidate because she hasn’t been bombarded relentlessly by Fox News for the past 3 years? You really think there’s nothing in her record or her past that Fox News couldn’t latch onto?
Let's face it. You don't have to be the absolutely greatest candidate ever in order to be way better than Trump and Biden. As that relates to Whitmer, if she had some truly awful baggage from her past, it would have been exposed in her two gubernatorial runs. No one cares what Fox News or the rest of the garbage cable news channels have to say anyway. There are at least a dozen state governors that should be running for president in 2024 instead of Trump and Biden. What the heck are we doing?
