Why do posts that don’t violate forum rules still get deleted?

I’m speaking of posts that are critical of Biden or other Democrats but are otherwise completely legitimate criticisms. I’ve followed several threads where posts I’ve previously read that had valid points or questions that were subsequently deleted. There was no name calling or profane language or any other kind of uncivil behavior but the posts disappear. Even a whole thread disappeared about China building a military airport next to Tiwan which I thought was very interesting but its gone now. Why does this happen so often?

There are a number of reasons that posts are deleted and the only consistent thing they have in common is that the author of the posts hardly ever agrees that they should have been deleted. Moreover, as I have been saying for a couple of years now, we are dealing with two completely different universes: the MAGA/Fox News/QANON reality and the reality of most DCUM users. Many of you who inhabit the first universe are frequently surprised to see that your "true" threads get deleted. Get used to it.

Hi OP. Per Jeff’s reply I am one of the people who is quick to report right wing nonsense posts. It’s like you guys have been come totally unmoored from reality and just because six sources in your right wing propaganda echo chamber all agree, you think it’s fact.

I make it a point of consuming news from a variety of sources (including PBS and WAPO, which you seem to think highly of?) because I want to hear all sides of the coverage. Because I’ve learned that truth/reality usually falls somewhere in-between the left and right biases of various news providers. It seems as though you don’t follow this practice for whatever reason, and prefer to only consume news from left-biased sources. If that is the case, I hardly see how you can claim to better informed than me. I’m seeking out a diversity of opinion. You are seeking out reinforcement of your own opinion.

I think you are doing yourself and all the users of this forum a disservice by taking it upon yourself to ensure that only topics or posts that meet your own ideological purity standard are seen and discussed. That mentality doesn’t a create a discussion, it creates an echo chamber.

If you’d prefer an echo chamber, at least have the courage to be honest about it.

This would be clear if you were familiar with their coverage of Bernie Sanders. I would guess that you have no exposure whatsoever to the actual left media. As such, you are not really exposed to "all sides". As I said, I tend to believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. But you can’t know where the middle is without first finding the margins.

The truth is not somewhere in between Breitbart and something else. The truth between qanon's pizzagate and mainstream media is not "some" kids being abused. Breitbart et al just reports lies.

Mother Jones used to be pretty left but for many years has moved towards the center. It is center left at best. NYT and Vox are both centrist. Only Democracy Now from your list might be considered "left". You should try The Young Turks and Jacobin.

Earlier this week I posted a nonpolitical thread about the little boy in New Jersey mauled to death by pit bulls in his own backyard. After being up for a day or two, it disappeared. I then posted another thread asking why it disappeared, given that in the history here there are a number of threads about pit bulls mauling or killing people. Someone else also posted wondering why, but within minutes that thread also got erased.

I’m new to reading and posting here and I find it very frustrating how arbitrarily certain threads or posts get erased and no explanation of any kind is given. I recognize the board owner gets to have the final say, but it seems if a person who is clicking here regularly and boosting the website income asks why a thread without any clear reason gets erased, they should at least get the courtesy of a response.

I can’t help but think this post will now be erased. Good enough, the board will soon lose my interest.
