Why do posts that don’t violate forum rules still get deleted?

I then posted another thread asking why it disappeared, given that in the history here there are a number of threads about pit bulls mauling or killing people. Someone else also posted wondering why, but within minutes that thread also got erased.

I’m new to reading and posting here and I find it very frustrating how arbitrarily certain threads or posts get erased and no explanation of any kind is given. I recognize the board owner gets to have the final say, but it seems if a person who is clicking here regularly and boosting the website income asks why a thread without any clear reason gets erased, they should at least get the courtesy of a response.

I can’t help but think this post will now be erased. Good enough, the board will soon lose my interest.

Did you post it in the pet and animal forum?

No I posted it in off-topic. If that was the only issue, board administrator could have moved the thread. It was erased entirely.

I can't speak for Jeff but I would guess that he is not hurting for users. In fact I'd say there are some in particular he would like to say goodbye to permanently. I am not sure if you are one of them based on this comment of yours but losing interest in this board is not a threat to be taken seriously, especially when most DCUM users have the opposite problem, DCUM I just can't quit you!

When that thread was reported to me, it was about 10 pages long and mostly posters either bashing pit bulls or each other. I didn't have time to go through all the pages cleaning it up. During the same time period, there have been a number of threads about the shootings in Atlanta, threads about Meghan Markle, threads about the former editor of teen Vogue, a thread about Kane's death, and a bunch of other heavily trafficked but contentious threads that have caused a much greater than normal workload. Moreover, there have been countless anti-pit bull threads here. There was essentially no discussion about the news article you posted (or at least none that I saw when I scanned a few pages). I am not sure what benefit would be achieved from additional pages repeating what was in the first 10. The easiest course of action was to remove it.

I reported the pit bull thread to Jeff because people were attacking a poster who had a slightly protective dog and calling her a murderer.

Put threads in the right place next time. Then they don’t disappear.

Anonymous wrote:Hi OP. Per Jeff’s reply I am one of the people who is quick to report right wing nonsense posts. It’s like you guys have been come totally unmoored from reality and just because six sources in your right wing propaganda echo chamber all agree, you think it’s fact.

Please, for the sake of the nation, go watch some PBS Newshour. Get a subscription to the Washington Post. Or maybe the Christian Science Monitor. Whatever sources you guys are consuming are leading you far away from rationality.

OP here

I make it a point of consuming news from a variety of sources (including PBS and WAPO, which you seem to think highly of?) because I want to hear all sides of the coverage. Because I’ve learned that truth/reality usually falls somewhere in-between the left and right biases of various news providers. It seems as though you don’t follow this practice for whatever reason, and prefer to only consume news from left-biased sources. If that is the case, I hardly see how you can claim to better informed than me. I’m seeking out a diversity of opinion. You are seeking out reinforcement of your own opinion.

I think you are doing yourself and all the users of this forum a disservice by taking it upon yourself to ensure that only topics or posts that meet your own ideological purity standard are seen and discussed. That mentality doesn’t a create a discussion, it creates an echo chamber.

If you’d prefer an echo chamber, at least have the courage to be honest about it.

There’s no both sides. I don’t know you. But if I’ve reported your nonsensical, floating away from reality posts then you aren’t really consuming a wide variety of media.

That is a simpleton’s outlook. There aren’t two sides. There are three. Left. Right. Reality. I was right. You aren’t looking for truth, you’re looking for affirmation.

Please educate yourself.

Uff da. That’s some seriously unearned smug you’re wearing.

Hey there! Minnesota? ND? I haven’t once seen that expression on DCUM. Reminds me of family.

Minnesota! I try not to use it too much to out myself, though there are more Minnesotans here than just me.

This is surprising because I thought I saw the moderator post that his revenues were down (lower number of unique users).
