What to buy at Costco?

Anonymous
We are a family of five with another baby on the way, so we think it may be time to join Costco. What should we get there?

There are probably a hundred old posts with the same question and lots of good answers.

We have 2 young kids.

Here’s what we buy at Costco:
-toilet paper
-laundry detergent
-trash bags
-coffee
-milk, butter, eggs, cheese, yogurt
-sandwich bread (it comes in a 2 loaf pack so we use 1 and freeze the other), cereal/granola, oatmeal, pasta, rice, tortillas, pita bread/Naan
-snacks: granola bars, fig bars, goldfish, graham crackers, applesauce, dried fruits, nuts
-vitamins and over the counter medicines (kids’ and adults’)
-batteries and light bulbs
-electric toothbrushes and replacement heads
-toothpaste, floss
-shampoo, conditioner, body wash
-contact solution
-tampons and pads
-my kids aren’t in diapers anymore but when they were we bought diapers and wipes there
-Kleenex
-paper towels
-sparkling water
-we are vegetarians/pescatarians so don’t buy their meat but I know a lot of people who do and find it a good deal. We buy fish and shrimp there often.
-we don’t really buy fresh fruits and vegetables there anymore as they go bad faster than we can eat them but do buy frozen fruits and vegetables. If we had a larger family I would buy apples, bananas, berries, spinach, bell peppers, carrots, etc there. They do have good produce.
-socks for the whole family. Sometimes other clothing. We’ve had good luck (my husband only buys his jeans from Costco, most of the kids’ pajamas come from there), and bad (I have bought a few shirts over the years that are poor quality but Costco is great about returns so that makes me feel ok trying things from time to time).
-sometimes household items such as towels, bath mats, we bought our coffee maker there. Lots of good deals on household items and furniture.
-alcohol. Beer & wine, hard liquor
-gas...we always fill up the car there. Much cheaper

I like the Kirkland brand TP and paper towels
Rao’s jarred sauce
Their produce is good
Lots of good cheeses
I may be in the minority, but I don’t really care for the bakery stuff. Cakes included.
Frozen crab legs at Christmas time

Everything that looks good to you. Plan plenty of time to browse and patience for your first trip. They vet their suppliers well and have an amazing return policy, so their stuff is good.

There is a Costco subreddit if you want to scroll through most popular posts of the last year.

By default I don't shop for food or other home items at the place that sells coffins.

I have two older teen boys but here are my must-haves from Costco:
Frozen Salmon Burgers
Frozen fish sticks
Frozen wild-caught salmon
Frozen panko breaded cod
Kursteaz panckae mix
Basmati rice
Avocado oil
Bread, hamburger buns, and bagels (I freeze them in packs of 4)
Costco brand sparkling water
Fresh spinach
portabella mushrooms
Fresh broccoli
Costco brand vodka (DC location only)
Pesto
Eggs
Laundry soap
Trash bags
Toilet paper
Coconut water

Also, I go twice a month and I treat myself to fresh flowers each time.

They don't sell these in the store, obviously.

Breakfast/brunch foods - muffins, croissants, etc. --> great back when we were allowed to have parties, LOL

Rotisserie chicken
Sparkling Water
Maple Syrup
Honey
Eggs
Wine
Appliances (we bought our refrigerator and dishwasher there)
Small Appliances (coffee maker, air fryer)
Snacks (love the huge jar of cashews, for example)
OTC Medication (Tylenol, Advil, allergy medicine)
Flowers (but don't order online because they ship directly from Brazil and can be damaged - my valentine's flowers were delayed and arrived frozen)
Milk (although I hate their milk containers)
Cheese (they have huge chunks of really good cheeses)
Batteries

My parents use the pharmacy but that is because they are down the street from their local Costco.

What a bizarre post. Why were you looking for coffins on their website?

Anyone remember the great Modern Family episode about Costco coffins?
