Should Admin be back in the building the same # of days as teachers

Anonymous
I am in PWCS and we have been back in the buildings four days a week for a few days.
My school has four administrators and they have only been coming in 2x a week, and continuing to work from home the other days.
The rationale is that there are so few kids in the building there’s no reason to have all administrators in the building at the same time.
That may be true, but it sure creates resentment among teachers.

Do you think that admin should just suck it up and work from the building the same # of days that teachers are?

I meant to say we have been back for a few weeks, not a few days.

Are administrators all fully vaccinated? If not, no, they should not be adding to the number of people in the building just to make things a child's idea of "fair." Everyone is safer if there are fewer people in the building.

Yes, but they sure as hell won't be. This should also apply to everyone in district offices and school board meetings. It's "safe with masks and distancing," right? So no need for them to be hypocrites.

Oh, no, no no. There's "no spread in schools," remember? And schools are "safer than the community." So get in there and show the teachers how it's done!

Okay, you have an agenda, whatever. Personally, if I had to go back to work in person, I would like to minimize the number of unvaccinated adults I was exposed to. Schools aren't magically safe, they are safe because we are taking appropriate mitigation measures: masking, distancing, etc. So fewer unvaccinated people in the building would be safer.

Administrators were vaccinated in the same group as teachers.

We only have 2 admin in the building currently. The other 5 are still working digitally while vaccinated. Not entirely sure why 60+ students are safe to eat in a room together but admin don't feel safe sitting in their offices in a "clean and sanitized building" but maybe that's why I don't make six figures.

This. If you are a government employee who got vaccinated based on your job, in person working is a fair expectation

Yes, they should be there. When ours come in late it also creates resentment. Sometimes we need to speak with them about something and our planning block is in the morning. We are required to be there and all of us are vaccinated. They need to be there to handle student, parent and staff issues.

That’s ridiculous. They absolutely should be back. They can hide in their office at school but they need to be there leading the way.

Our ES admins and secretaries do this too. They rotate who is in when.

+1 I think it is a travesty that all of the administrators at central offices are not working in the office.

I think that’s unnecessary. I’m a teacher. I need to be in person, but it doesn’t upset me if someone from central office who is able to work from home, does. That’s just petty.

Really? You don't think they should be in their offices? That's crazy. If they are demanding teachers be in buildings then they need to be either in the schools or in their office buildings. I'm a parent and I would not put up with it if I were a teacher and it wasn't all hands on deck by central office staff.

Just to clarify- we’re talking about central office staff, and not building administrators? No. Their roles are very different from ours. It doesn’t make my child care struggles any better- just means they have to do it, too. Also, having just done it this part year- I believe most educators working from home are working pretty hard. That doesn’t bother me.
