At what age did you start dying your hair to cover gray?

Just out of curiosity:

If you currently dye your hair to cover gray, when did you start? Are you M or F? What ethnicity?

And how often do you color your hair?

I don’t. F age 45, but I have blonde hair.

W, F.

I started getting stray grays in my late 20s. They took over very slowly and I was able to just pull them for about 10 years, when they grew too numerous to keep up with. I started coloring then- late 30s. I color every 3 weeks.

16. It sucked.

35. I don’t have a lot, but it was growing in patches along my hairline and really washing out my face

Late 30s I think, maybe 40. I had kids late and don't want to be called grandma at elementary school.

37. I don’t have a lot, but my hair is dark and they were concentrated at my temples.

I have never colored my hair, female, 60 years old. The gray isn't that noticeable but I'm getting streaks in the front, color is dark blonde, light brown (dependent on how much I'm out in the sun). So far, I'm liking the gray and am turned off by coloring due to the maintenance.

I started coloring it at 20, white female, hazel eyes, brunette hair. Stopped coloring last year during the pandemic at 43, got it cut this spring and am now 100% grey at 44. Perfectly fine with it and don't see myself coloring again.

I have never colored my hair either (female, 55) but I'm seeing grays now (thanks Covid!) so will likely start at some point (next year?).

I colored mine from about 35 until 45. Then, I realized I didn’t want to be that person. I want to grow old naturally and gracefully. I had my stylist cut layers into my hair and let all the color grow out. It took over a year to get all the color out. My hair is now light brown with lots of silver/gray highlights. I love it! I’ll never color my hair again.

48, W, F, dark blonde, and they are just now starting to come in. I have had highlights since college, so that might have masked any early grays, but this year they became more noticeable around my temples, probably due to no hair color this year due to COVID. They are not enough to bother me (yet), and blend in with my natural, somewhat mousy color, so I am OK with them for now, but will probably end up going back to highlights this summer, which I suspect will take care of most of what I have.

I'm a white woman and started dyeing to cover gray hair around age 35. I'm 44 now and do my roots every 3-4 weeks or so (at home).
