At what age did you start dying your hair to cover gray?

brunette with very fair skin (I'm part irish and part croatian).

Had to start dyeing in my early 30s when I could no longer just pluck a couple.

They are really out of control at this point. I turn 44 in a couple months. I color every 4 weeks (I have a lady that comes to our house - she's awesome!), but I may have to cut it to 3 or start doing the roots myself.

I should probably just go gray and admit defeat, considering the pandemic is causing my face to age 20 years ;P

I've been highlighting my hair for a long time but just started getting gray strands about 2 years ago at 57. So far they blend in with the highlights. I am old enough that I may just let the gray grow in a few years.

Yup--me too. I have hair dye delivered on a monthly Amazon subscription.

Half Asian woman. I started covering grays at 19. I’m 40 now and still don’t have many, but I definitely got them early.

What is the point of your post? She didn’t ask for input from people who DON’T color their hair.

I started at age 44. Started getting the occasional gray at ~32 or so. Now at 47, I'm only ~5-10% gray, but it is sprinkled pretty evenly around my head and it looks kind of unkempt against my level 2-3 almost black hair. I use a level 5 demi-permanent to darken the white strands a bit so that they blend in.

White F brunette with very fair skin. I first noticed grays around 18 and have been coloring since I was about 24. I dye my hair about every 5-6 weeks but should probably do more often. I need a root cover up after about 3 weeks.

OP here.

I’ve been going gray slowly, since I was 20.

I feel like this year, at 40, all of my grays just magically appeared.

Thanks for the responses. I will probably start dying my hair every four weeks now.

White woman, red hair. Started noticing white (redheads don't go grey, apparently). Used pandemic shut-in boredom to experiment with dyeing.

About every 6 months seems to be what I need. 45.

Late 20s. White woman with dark brown hair.

I color it at home every 4 weeks. I’m 47 now. It’ll probably take until my 60s70s before I stop.

Started to notice grey at temples around 43 ish. But at that point if I missed a color appt it wasn’t awful. Now, at 48, I am in there as scheduled or else I look 10 years older. They greys have multiplied and I do not have the complexion to have a head of grey hair. In the past year the amount of grey seems like it has doubled. I think most is age but the pandemic certainly hasn’t helped. I feel like the aging process really accelerates after 45/46. Even my eyebrows are losing color!

I’m Indian, turn 50 this year, and started coloring my hair when I was 30. I had been going grey since I was 18 or so.
