Inn at Little Washington

Who has been? Worth the money? Planning to go for my birthday later this year.

Can I ask how old you are? My husband and I were 40 when we went and it was just not our scene. It’s lovely but it’s not a hip place by any stretch of the imagination. We went for a babymoon and the food was fine but I’ve had a lot of other nicer dinners. Cheese course is fun, but it otherwise, I was very sadly disappointed.

OP. 35th birthday. That's a bit disappointing! We are fine with it not being "hip" but would want exceptional food and service.

DH and I went 7 years ago (when I was 33, since pp asked about age) and it wasn’t just dinner — it was an experience. The food was phenomenal and we both felt transported back in time. We absolutely loved the ambiance and to this day We both think fondly of that night. I’m not sure why PP was disappointed to find it wasn’t a “hip place,” as it has never billed itself as such. I’m glad we went and still feel that experience was worth every penny.

If you can you should stay the night. It really turns it into more of an “experience”, and the moment you arrive you are served tea with various amazing little treats, then to the room to dress for dinner, then eat for like 2 hours, then the next morning another amazing meal for breakfast.

It’s not “hip”. It’s beautiful and charming and a little quirky and objectively fabulous food.

I went with DH in my mid 30s, a year or so before covid.

OP. Yes, we are planning to stay the night as well. Thank you!

I could have written this. Same experience. We stayed the night, I had floral nightmares.

We went 10 years ago for a long weekend get away after we got engaged. It was fun, but we have had equal amounts of fun at Rose’s luxury. It was definitely stuffy and formal like Citronelle which is gone now.

We stayed at a B&B near by - Gay St?

My husband and I went when we were 33-34 and loved it. We stayed overnight and were very careful in choosing our rooms so that we didn’t feel attacked by florals. Yes it still wasn’t how our home was decorated, but it was lovely and the service was impeccable. Everyone greeted you by name, knew what we were celebrating— it’s that kind of place. And, definitely stay overnight if possible because I think the tea and breakfast were just as wonderful as the dinner was!

I’m 39 and went a number of years ago now. We went two times. We loved it the first time. We didn’t have as amazing of an experience the second time for some reason

We went for my birthday a few years ago and we loved it. Definitely an experience, and the food and service were exceptional. I would go back. But not hip if that's what you are looking for. It's not what they are selling at all. If you want hip then someplace like Masseria is a better choice. Do the chef's table.

You may want to take a look at menus and photos to make sure it's what you want, because it is expensive and you don't want to regret it,

Yes! Stay the night if you can. Service for the hotel is fab. They knew who we were when we drove up (how?) and even if we were only out of the room for 15 minutes it had been refreshed. Add in a fancy dinner and afternoon tea and you can't beat it.

It is definitely an experience -- and worth knowing what you are getting since it is very expensive. DH and and I have been a few times (between the ages of 35-50) and enjoyed it. Yes, it is formal in the dining room and there is a lot of floral in the Inn rooms -- you just have to love it for what it is. We have gone when we wanted an escape from DC and everything hip -- it is stepping back in time.
Staying there is lovely -- we have usually done a short hike in the Shenandoah prior to arrival to work up an appetite.
