| Would like to gift my husband who runs (I don’t) some new clothes for running. Pants (joggers?) and a long sleeve shirt or jacket maybe. What brands are good? |
|
What brand of sneakers does he wear? Does that brand have a clothing line?
Lululemon has a men's line. I think Athleta's men's line closed up shop? Honestly, Target has some decent stuff. |

Does he have ear buds? One year DH and I decided not to get presents for each other for xmas. He can never stick to it though, God love him. I got wind that he was going to BEST BUY to get my GIFT. I gave myself a stern talking to that I must display gratitude no matter what. BEST BUY! I am not a go-to-BEST-BUY for her gift kind of gal! On Christmas, he gave me new ear buds that are highly rated for runners. Comfortable, waterproof, stay-put, and something about them makes it so you can still hear your surroundings. He said, I know how much you love music and how much you love to run and I thought these would make your runs more enjoyable. They have been life changing for me!
It looks like recent analysis recommends the same ones: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-running-headphones/ https://www.bestbuy.com/site/plantronics-backbeat-fit-3150-true-wireless-sport-headphones-black/6361731.p?acampID=0&cmp=RMX&irclickid=WGpTXQy8lxyLUFQ05-R4sULoUkEQrH1lw1Udyg0&irgwc=1&loc=Narrativ&mpid=376373&ref=198&skuId=6361731 |

I’m a runner and my husband is a runner and a lot of our friends are runners and if I know anything about runners is that they are seriously picky about what they like based on nothing but personal preference. There isn’t some magical shoe or pant that works for everyone. We all have our unique and idiosyncratic preferences.
Listen to him, talk to people at stores, and don’t be offended if he returns your gift. It’s nice of you to try and do something nice for him! Really! |

Agreed that runners can be picky, but some gifts I have received over the years were great -- nice wool running socks from SmartWool, some breathable long sleeve shirts (with some reflection if your DH runs at night), lightweight hats for running in the summer, compression socks and compression tights. I was skeptical about the tights but they seem to help my recovery after long runs/races (at least makes me focus on a different kind of discomfort perhaps?).
For the shirts and pants, most brands are fine -- if you feel comfortable I would stop in at Pacers or Fleet Feet and pick something out. |
| If he runs in the dark, the noxgear vest is helpful to be seen by drivers. |
Agree. I'm very particular about my running gear. in fact, I rotate through the same 3 shirts. DH and mil gifted me other shirts and shorts and socks, etc - all nice - but I prefer to stick to my same 3 outfits. Does he have other hobbies? Nats season will start soon. How about XYZ with the Nats logo instead. |
| Something from pacers |
| Smartwool socks are amazing. And smartwool long sleeve base layers for colder weather. I agree, everyone has their own taste. But, I run in sweats from Target if I'm buying but my husband has gotten me some really nice technical things over the years and I love them. |
| Silkies. Super comfortable for running in warm weather. |
This +1. I explicitly told my husband I wanted gloves for running for Xmas (we live in the Boston area) and he came through with 3 different pairs. I’ve worn all 3 in rotation this winter. Best gift ever! |
| You have access to his closet, right? Figure out what he wears most and buy the same thing in a different color. |
I'm going to restate what another poster said: Runners can be incredibly picky! For example: Me, I HATE Smartwool socks for running. I only like Balega and Feetures. So you can peek in DH's dresser drawers and see what he likes, or just get him a gift card to his favorite running store (my DH gets me gift cards to Potomac River Running every year, and I love it -- the one time he bought me actual gear from there, I wound up returning it because it was something I'd never wear, God bless him). |
| I run, and my most welcome gift in regards to my running would be a gift card to Tracksmith. Their clothes are both extremely functional and good looking. |
