+1 on this. |
| I use Brooks for a lot of gear. One gift I really liked was a running belt (fanny pack sorta thing) that holds my enormous phone and a water bottle while I run. |

Yes, runners are picky and clothes have to be tried on to see what fits.
Do NOT buy shoes for runners. And people who recommend shoe brands - it just doesn't work that way. I can't wear NIkes, or Saucony or Brooks. I like the idea of the running belt. Also, does he have a smart watch or the like? I have a favorite running store and would be happy to have something from there |
| Get him a voucher for a specialist running store then he can go in and get fitted for shoes and pick up some other stuff at the same time. |
I'm picky about my shoes, but I'm far more picky about my watch. A serious runner will have decades of data with Garmin/Suunto/Polar and isn't going to use a watch from another brand |
| How much do you want to spend? Does he have a fitness tracker/watch? I love my Garmin VivoActive. |

Another picky runner.
Definitely stay away from shoes. Each brand fits differently. Clothes - look at what brands he does wear and get him something that is same brand and same material, just different color or pattern. Some people love cotton, some people detest it. Same with poly blends, etc. I’m not picky about socks, but I know people who are. If he doesn’t already have a fitness watch, I recommend the Fitbit. But as others stated, if he already has one, he would most likely want to stay with the same brand. |
All good advice from previous posters. Here are a few more things to consider: - Is your DH a running fanatic (runs rain or shine) or just a casual runner? This will influence what kind of stuff he will want. For example, if he's not a serious runner, he's probably not going to want a runner's watch or a runner's belt. - How long does he run? If he's a long distance runner (10 miles or more at a time), he's probably going to want different things than someone who is out there for 30 mins at a time. - What type of guy is he? Does he care about looking good when he's running or is he a "function over fashion" type (most dudes I know) - Is he consistent with his clothes? Like another said, she wears the same 3 running shirts and won't change. If so, get a different color of the same type of brand - What effect are you going for? Something thoughtful or just a gift of encouragement? If you want the gift that makes him eternally grateful, you have to know what his preferences are. When people say that runners are picky, it's not that they are picky, they know what works for them and they want to stick with that. There is nothing worse than trying something new and at mile 15 of a run and start bleeding because of a new sock (blister) or a new shirt (nipple burn). If you just want to encourage his habit, then a gift card would be a great gift. Anyways, hope these questions and all the previous responses help you with a great gift for your DH. You are a sweet DW to consider something thoughtful for your DH. Also, a nice evening massage after a run, when the kids are down for the night, and something extra afterwards is a gift that he will always remember. Just sayin. |
| Armband for holding cell phones/keys. Running hat. Good sunglasses. |
