How likely are my chances to get in to Deal for 6th grade?

We are out of bounds, am I crazy to put Deal as our number 1 choice for 6th grade? I am also considering doing the 5th grade lottery again to try for Latin since I have a summer/younger boy. Smart?

As long as you don't have 12 other schools you prefer it's worth a shot, even though it's a long shot. My guess is they don't offer any slots in the lottery while they wait to see who enrolls and shows up, but things could move in September.

I think you have a better chance to do fifth grade again at Latin than 6th OOB at Deal.

Will myschooldc allow you to lottery for both 5th and 6th grade for the same kid? Can you lottery for a grade you've already officially completed?

I don’t think you can lottery for a grade that is outside your kid’s age range (re repeating fifth at Latin)...

You can choose the grade you lottery for but you can't lottery for two grades at the same time.

Will a school ‘allow’ a parent to hold back/ have their child repeat a grade in another school. For example, re- lotterying for 5th grade at Latin?

To answer your question - how likely are you to get a spot at Deal for 6th grade lottery? There is 0 chance

Last year they offered 6 spots by June. My assumption is that these were kids who had priority (possibly sibling enrolled) because there is no other logical reason why they went to the lottery in June given the uncertainty of the year.

The previous year they offered 3 spots by June. The pattern of going quickly to the waitlist is not about filling seats - it is about supporting families so they can move forward.

I don't think it's particularly smart to hold your kid back a year, no.

+1 but OP if you feel your kid needs to repeat 5th, why not lottery for a Deal elementary feeder?

Wow. The middle school lottery redshirt.

Deal is unlikely to reopen next year for most IB kids. One reason why is that there are too many OOB kid there. So there’s that.

you can have our deal spot- we fled to private and will stay there because there is no way Deal will be open next year

+1. The plan for Term 4 is to have a lottery for kids who want to return. The prize, if you win, is ONE live class a week. It will take longer for most kids to travel and return home than receive in person instruction. This is an absolute embarrassment. All of our elected officials should be recalled. Looking at you Mary Cheh and Ruth Wattenberg . And the War 3 Ed Network has proven itself completely toothless and should be dismantled.
