APS - Manipulatives and Shared materials

I heard at a parent teacher conference that APS has told teachers that they can't use any manipulatives or shared materials because of the risk of COVID. Is that right?

It seems like the teachers could just put any manipulatives aside for 3 days, as they've been doing for library books, and they would be fine. So if a teacher uses math manipulatives on a Wednesday, those items would be Covid-free for reuse the following week. Couldn't APS do this safely for any shared object? I don't understand this prohibition. Doesn't it make life harder for teachers?

It’s overkill, much like 10ft at recess. I really hope that these kind of restrictions loosen, but it may not be before everyone gets settled in.

It’s not correct. Students will have their own manipulatives at their desk. Many of them already have some from the take home kits. This is true for the school where I work as well at the one my child attends.

The library is sooo ridiculous!

The whole process at Central is so silly. They can’t hand people books! And they don’t need to quarantine the books. There is no evidence of surface transmission through library books. They just need to open all the branches.

Just like no new instruction last spring.

APS staff is making the right call much like parents are making the right call by seeking an actual education for their children elsewhere.

Please. I’m no covid denier. In fact, I’m educated enough about the virus that I know that there is very little danger of becoming infected from surfaces, especially when people are masked and therefore not touching noses and mouths immediately after touching objects. It’s the fools who think that there is significant danger posed by transference that are frightening.

The kids each have their own set of manipulatives. Check your back to school letters from home room teacher.

They’ll be bringing their own sets from home. Look at what the school sent. This is not an issue.
