I started babysitting three children full-time last Tuesday and will be working 10 hr days, Tue - Fri.
I love the kids and the job is great. All except >>> I am required to wear a facial mask the entire ten hrs! Is this fair?? While I understand that Covid is still a very serious concern, I also think expecting me to wear a facial covering all day long is a bit annoying. Especially when neither the parents or the kids wear masks at all. Never! What should I do?? |
If you're not comfortable with it, find Another job. |
I work and I have to wear a mask all day so that's normal to me now. I'd want the parents and kids to wear one too though. How is it only that you have to wear one? That would bother me. |
How old are the kids? If they are young, I can understand them not wearing masks. But the parents should absolutely be wearing masks around you. |
+1 |
I would not agree to this. How are you supposed to eat and drink? If the children are still learning language skills, your face being covered won’t work. If you’re working in their home 40 hrs per week, you’re part of the family pod. If they are uncomfortable bringing someone into their pod, they should not be hiring a nanny. |
You will get used to it but the other adults at least should wear a mask too. It’s not like you are just the dirty one. In sure they have some exposure somewhere. |
We have our awesome nanny mask, we pay for comfortable kn94s for her. Every teacher and daycare worker does it, why wouldn’t you? |
Yes, though they should be too. |
All adults should be wearing a mask |
What is your living/working situation? If this is your only job and it’s only the one set of kids, and you are in a bubble in your own home, masks should be dropped. |
What, no face shield or goggles too? |
I don't think it's fair to OP if the other adults in the house are't wearing masks around her. They don't have to wear them in their office, but they should wear them when they are in the same room as her. |
Other jobs that involve direct care expect professionals to wear a mask all day. It's not particularly hard or burdensome unless you're wearing an N95. |
These kids are alive 168 hours a week. There's no evidence that spending less than a quarter of that time with an adult wearing a mask will impact their language learning. |
