I posted in off-topic as well, but hoping to crowdsource the experts here. What's a good area to buy a second modest home in Florida: affordability and reasonable access to the beach would be great but not required.

what is affordable?

I like the gulf coast side.

Depends on what side of the state you want to be in. Jensen Beach or Bonita Springs are nice. Totally different areas but very affordable.

OP here, ~500K home. I've been looking at Neptune Beach in Jacksonville. Wondering if anyone have an opinion about the area.

You might want to check out NYT map of red/blue voting areas. Never occurred to me before Trump. A SIL just moved to a neighborhood south of Sarasota and she said it is the very trumpiest of Trump country. Big Trump Flags. NO masks and they challenge my SIL for wearing a mask. Really unpleasant. And they blame Democrats for various things they don’t like.
