Camille with a French last name - too much?

Anonymous
Nickname: Camie.

I worry that with our constantly mispronounced last name, it’s too much. DH is French but I’m not.

No, I think that will be lovely.

Oh I think it’s lovely.

Every Camille I know IRL is French, so they all have French last names.

I know your going to try for Camie, but my guess is she’ll be Cam.

I think it works IF your husband is really French, and not like, 1/4 French or something.

So a kid that's a solid 50% French, cool. A kid that's like 10% French? That's kinda weird.

OP here Ndola Cam would be fine. I was just worried about sounding affected.

Even then it's fine. Really.

I'm French.
Camille is a lovely, classic name. Not affected at all.
What on earth is the problem here?

I love it. I have known plenty of people with French first & last names & they love their names too.

I like it. Personally, I love when the first and last name are from the same language. My sibling has a very German last name and gave the kid an Irish-ish first name, I still find it so jarring to the ear. (Although I think Soledad O'Brien pulls it off beautifully!)

OP here. He’s truly French - born in France, has an accent, speaks in French. His family lives in France. But I am solidly American going back eight generations and from Kansas!

What? I don’t even understand what the issue is.

Personally I love Delphine as well. But alas I am a brown woman married to a non-French guy so my non-existent girl will never be named Delphine.

What? Most of Americans have English first names (John, Robert) and last names of Irish, German, Dutch, Polish, Italian, ETC ETC last names. So you have to pick a first name that matches your majority ethnicity? This makes no sense.

Camille is so pretty. I would definitely use it since she will be part French, but I'd probably use it anyway unless it sounded awful with the last name.
