I received one for my birthday and generally love it. But, it does take some practice.
I'm finding, however, that the curls or waves I put in with it don't tend to stay in place as well as with a curling iron. What am I doing wrong? I have long hair, some layers (but that changes; sometimes I grown those out). Hair is very thick and has a fair amount of curl to it - small curls but very spiral, esp at shorter lengths. Am i in need of some sort of product that would make my hair hold the curl better? Sometimes I like to make my hair very curly (more than it is normally but it does have natural curl). But sometimes, I like the more laid back "beach curls" look. I can't seem to master that with the air wrap. When I run my fingers through the curls to get the look, the curls just sort of fall apart . . . With a curling iron, and the very high heat pressed on the hair, I haven't really needed a lot of product other than a small spray of hairspray and some mousse. |

I have the Airwrap. My hair is bra length, fine but I have lots of it. Texture is now crappy wavy but blow dries straight very easily.
I use the round brush most often just to smooth and add bend to the ends with volume at the roots. The trick is to wrap the hair loosely once around the barrel as you pull down from roots and then roll up a bit from the ends, and then use the cool shot before unrolling. You can buy longer curler bars which I totally recommend if you hair is longer than shoulder length. Since there are two and they spin in different directions, I divide my hair into left side and right side, then top to bottom. That way you're not changing the barrel as you constantly switch back and forth. Again, roll up and then use the cool shot for 10 seconds. Use the regular drier attachment until your hair is 85% dry, then switch to the styler attachment you want. I find, all in, that I'm using half the time I'm used to do my hair. I really like the Kenra products - there is a lite finishing spray that I use at the end, and they have a blowdry spray that is also pretty good. I use Ghost Oil (not from Kenra) as my prep which keeps the wispys at bay and protects from heat. But with the Airwrap, i'm definitely using less heat. |
Super helpful. Yes. It’s taking less time and less heat, which I love. Maybe I’m also. It using the cold shot long enough. I def ordered the long barrels as the short ones are just not enough length for my hair. |
| NP. I loooove the air wrap. Cold shot is key. |

For the beach curls, I actually wrap my hair around the dryer instead of letting it “suck” my hair in. I learned by watching the video linked below.

Earlier PP but yes. This. Absolutely. Especially if you don’t want the ends to be the most curled parts. |
| NP. Every few months I get excited about the Airwrap again and give it another try, but I'm disappointed every time. My curls look great immediately after styling and then fall out completely 30 mins later. |

Does anyone have a good texturizing or finishing spray you can recommend?
NP. |
ouai has a god one |
Pp here. I think they have the shine spray I mentioned as well |
Actually, that reference was in a different thread. But yes. Ouai |
Oribe texture spray is great and doesn’t have an overwhelming smell. |
Hit it with the cool shot longer? Just reading about the skills necessary to make this appliance work is daunting. I can do my makeup (or anyone’s really) but I may as well be using a garden rake on my head with how bad my hair ends up looking. |
| Just do a proper blow out. Fake curls are dated. |
I'm not the most dexterous with styling tools either but I have figured this one out pretty quickly. |
