ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Speaking of links, the jury ruled against NASL the other day. Big win for MSL and US Soccer ... https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/43680111/jury-sides-mls-ussf-nasl-suit ... Maybe there'll be more time to focus on youth soccer and the age change issue now!

Great share. Fascinating views that pretty much confirm most leagues/players will be switching from BY to SY and about all the effort to collaborate around the World Cup being here.

I think the World Cup aspect can't be understated. That is going to be a huge stage for youth soccer to build on the game from a young age. If they can all get on the same page with school year to better foster growth from a young age, then now is the time to switch back. Save me the elite players, etc. stuff, because that doesn't matter nearly to these leagues and clubs. The money driver is in the number of participants, not their self-imposed status as an "elite" team/league, etc.

Except "elite" leagues are the most expensive to join (not even counting the travel costs), with ECNL often listed at being the top of that heap!

It all boils down to getting as many kids as possible to play, and keep playing soccer, regardless of leagues.

Any ECNL symposium leaks?

Yup - SY will be implemented in 2 weeks, followed by a grad year rollout 4 weeks later. You can play up, down, or around and if your registration check clears, so does your path to a full D1 scholarship!

My daughter’s coach for her GA team said they are still deciding if they will stay BY or goto 9/1 cut off.

No changes for next year. Unless teams want to play up. Nice try though. Grad year makes the most sense with how the college landscape is looking.

Your daughter's GA coach knows about as much as the people in this forum.

That’s possibly true? We should know in about a month or so. But he said they were considering staying birth year with MLsN.

Then they are going to have to make it more affordable.

I don't know how anyone can listen to this and conclude that SY isn't a done deal. Sure some tweaks here and there but BY as a thing is done. Only question is what if anything begins to bend for 25/26 before it fully breaks come 26/27. If they're smart, they begin to dabble with some changes in 25/26 to work out the kinks for full roll-out in 26/27.

After listening to this, I dont need to read a single page more on this thread. But I will.

You may be right, but also he doesn't represent the entire soccer industry. He, a long with AYSO and US Club (ECNL) were in favor of this change. To date MLSN, EDP, NAL on the boys side and GA have not made any statements with all rumors being they are staying BY to appease MLS and US Soccer.

I think you see a split, MLSN /GA stay BY and try to corner a market on aspiring pros and the rest go SY. I don't think that is wise on MLSN's part but it is what it is. Parents will speak with their wallets and SY side of the soccer world will win out in the end and MLSN and GA lose market share. GA may cease to exist in a couple years if this happens.
