| Has there ever been talk of an NCSL open cup tourney ? Since its the biggest league numbers wise in the area. They should do a cup style tourney in each age group U13 and up. Just do a random draw for seedings. Single elimination would run the same time as the regular season. If you start with the biggest age group you talking about 50 teams so about 7 extra games for the champion to win out. Each round of elimination cuts the field in half. Total random draw for seedings can be done live-streamed. games can be played either the weekend or occasional week night. A cool tourney within the league that provides between 1 and 7 extra games for each team. |

spoiler alert: a division 1 team will end up winning every time.
let them play other teams they wouldn't normally play in regular tournaments. |
You are most likely correct, but, Its just like an open cup in us soccer or the NCAA mens bball tourney one and done anything can happen. Also in tournaments usually the flights are pretty evenly matched or as best the can be. Here its all random draw. Would be a fun thing if a small team from out in the hills of VA or the amish country of MD upset a mighty perennial powerhouse to eliminate them. Who knows an added former ODSL could take home the crown. You never know if you dont play..... |
Sure. That’s why the biggest teams in the soccer planet win every game day in and day out. Where do you people come from? |
We are not talking about the biggest teams on the planet . We are talking about NCSL teams yes there are talent gaps but not big enough where you can predict every winner. Great idea hope it gains traction. |
Indeed... see 150-years worth of FA Cup in England... just six clubs have ever won that wasn't in the top flight, last being 1980, and even then they were from the second tier. It's not that a lower-tiered club can't win any game, it's that they won't be able to sustain the success week after week against stout competition. |
| I think thats cool idea for sure. Who cares if who wins the entire thing. Its a local youth league its not the World Cup. |
|
Im sure this would be a hit with most clubs. You can make the finals all played at soccerplex the same day and stream those games on YouTube.

We’ve listened. And we’re working on it. Thanks for the idea DCUM. |
| Would the tourney fee be the same for all clubs? So 1 gamers would subsidize the advancing teams? Sounds great |
No extra tournament fees just built into the league cost that way clubs won't decide not to do it. Much cheaper than an actual tourney as all the insurance is already paid in league set up.all games on home fields spread across DMV so no trying to pull permits for one set of 30-40 fields for a particular weekend. great sponsorship opportunity for season long coverage. |
No extra fees. Just cover the refs. Any more ideas to share? I’m getting all the credit at my meetings thO. |
|
So the one off teams subsidize the advancing teams as part of their membership on the league.
Great. Could we add cash bonuses to the winning coach club and players ??? |
| And No “mercy” rule. Let it play out 35-0 |
kids figure out how to stop that at some point- the ref only has so many red cards and the losing team is not necessarily the physically smaller or weaker team |
