WTU UNION VOTES—NO STRIKE

So weird. It’s almost like all the teachers on here were telling you this, but you preferred to believe the trolls and echo chamber.

I am a teacher and very relieved it's finally over.

Feels great to say I told you so, even to a bunch of anonymous strangers on DCUM!

This is because a lot of the teachers OUTSIDE DCUM were saying the opposite, so it's hard to know what is really going on.

There were plenty of teachers who voted for a strike, and it's not like there's advance sentiment polling which would have suggested the result.

We were talking about a potential strike because they were talking about a potential strike.

We were polled. The MAJORITY said no. I assume you're not a part of the WTU and the people who supported that were mostly in leadership roles. Take that tidbit how you'd like. But teachers haven't been fully represented by anyone in DC, unfortunately.

I think this should be a lesson to remember the amount of trolls pretending to be both teachers and parents trying to start drama.

The WTU started discussing a strike.

Parents: Oh wow is WTU going to strike?

The WTU announces that they will vote on whether to strike.

Parents: Hmmm is WTU going to strike?

The WTU takes a vote on whether to strike, which does not pass.

Parents: Phew!

Odd teacher on DCUM: SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE? You parents were all just fear-mongering with your discussion of the WTU striking!

The vote wasn’t a yes/no for a strike. It was a vote yes/no for the executive committee to begin a discussion over a possible strike.

It was never going to happen.

What? Yes, I'm aware of how votes work. You missed my point, which was that it was not clear to us non-teachers what the result would be.

This is just the dumbest thing to be all "I told you so!" about. No parents here were saying there would definitely be a strike.
