Brookland Middle School

My child's feeder school is DCI, but I have been looking at other options. I was just wondering about other peoples' thoughts about this school.

I think it is, or was before covid, on a good trajectory. But a long way to go. I would give it a real look before writing it off.

Have you considered Inspired Teaching?

Thanks. Yea, I visited the booth and chatted to someone during the EDFest and of course did some independent research. We are also scheduled to participate in their Open House next week.

I hadn't considered Inspired Teaching but will take a looksie.

Thanks again!

I would look at Two Rivers as well if the commute east is ok for you.

Thanks and will do. I am very knowledgeable of Two Rivers' Elementary school, but not the middle school.

Beautiful building but that’s about it. Most kids in that neighborhood are going to DCI. The school is seriously underenrolled. Very low numbers but perhaps your kid can get a good amount of attention from teachers. But where does BMS feed into HS? I would personally leave it alone but DCI is very crowded. Middle School options are very limited. I would also seriously give Sojourner Truth a try. It seems like it’s becoming an alternative to DCI.

Dunbar I think.

I think in time and with the right leader success is possible, much like for Stuart-Hobson. Will it happen? I dunno.

I'm considering Brookland Middle as an option for next year. Any current or former parents have any feedback they can provide would be much appreciated.

I do not have any experience with the school, but wanted to jump in and say that this is our in-bound MS and we are also considering it for when the time comes. I’m so glad there are others who are considering it.

DCI vs BMS seriously? Is your child performing way below grade level? Because the students at BMS are.

Ask if your kid can do a shadow day. Or if you can drop by and observe classes one day. It is the only way to know

OP I can’t even believe you would co slider passing on DCI for brookland. There is a reason it’s only 50%enrolled. The test scores are abysmal. All the promises to families during planning stage for academic rigor never came through. Dunbar has the same issue. Brookland middle is at least 10-15 years before turning around. If your kid needs attention because they are below grade leve then maybe it will work.

Very happy at DCI.
