Things are about the same as far as I know. Haven't heard much news good or bad.

Do you need a hand from us on your lottery list?

Seconded and live nearby. We chose ITDS. Brookland Middle School is a school of last resort. I know a kid who ended up there because another school was too challenging for her kid, but she didn't seem thrilled about it.

You can't count on a 6th grade spot at ITDS so you have to have backups. Look at Sojourner Truth, and put down Stuart-Hobson and Eliot-Hine if the commute is doable for you. Also look at Wells if you can commute there. Cap City and EL Haynes are okay too.

My kid is IB for Brookland, and went to regular DCPS in neighborhood through 4th grade. Staffer at her school told me there are a lot of fights there. (Also, sadly, one of the students there was killed as he was trying to break into a man's car).
I don't know how old your kid is, or what their academic levels are, but if it were me, I would lottery at 5th grade for Latin and/or Basis and/or Inspired Teaching, depending on what seems right for your kid.
Then if you strike out that year, I would lottery for Stuart Hobson, McKinley Tech and Eliot Hine (though EH would be quite the commute).
I had a foster daughter at McKinley Tech during the pandemic, so I heard the classes--- the teachers I heard were good. And the mom of one of my daughter's friends had her daughter at Brookland Middle one year, hated it, and child is now at McKinley Tech and she likes it better.

Just coming on to add that depending on where OP is coming from, EH may be easier to get to as it is near bigger roads (17th St, C St, Bladensburg, etc). SH and EH are not too far apart, so if they are coming from that direction anyway it may be a moot point as SH is closer to H St and smaller Cap Hill neighborhoods that may get more congested.

They are talking about McKinley Middle. And from what I've seen, it does seem to be a decent school.
