DS has some weird spots on his heels and toes. I know there was a lot of talk about COVID toes at the beginning of all this so of course it freaks me out. I think the odds of it being COVID are very very low but am wondering if I should get it checked out for any reason. I know cold weather can cause this kind of thing so I'm wondering if it's that... I can't completely remember but I think they showed up after sledding Sunday.
Over the past two weeks I'd say DS had a total of 3 interactions with friends, all outside, probably 50/50 masked. DH goes to work every other week, distanced and wearing a mask the whole time, and I've had 3-4 distanced outdoor interaction (mainly walks with friends). DS's feet are sometimes itchy, but none of the 3 of us have any symptoms of COVID at all. My inclination is just to keep an eye on his feet and get it checked out if they get noticeably worse or he starts having any other issues... but curious what DCUM thinks. |

That is not covid
It could be plantar warts, callous, fungal infection...but not covid |
| Does he have spots anywhere else? Are they more like blisters? Could it be HFM? |
Sorry, I should have said he's 9. He had HFM when he was little (he had like 3 spots but poor DH got a raging case). I don't think that's it. Thanks to PP for reassuring me it's likely not covid I didn't think so but I think everyone's radar is on high alert.

| If they are red or purple and under the skin, it’s worth a call to the doc’s advice line |
HFMD is caused by different viruses, and different strains of those viruses. You can get it more than once. It's usually caused by coxsackievirus, but can also be cause by other enteroviruses like EV-1. e.g., https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24033818/ |
Yeah fair but I think the likelihood of his exposure to HFM is even lower than the likelihood of his exposure to COVID at this point. With my comment about him being 9 I just meant he's not in pre-school all up with a bunch of kids where HFM spreads like wildfire. |

Are they under the skin or on top of the skin?
Red or purple spots under the skin are always a cause of concern. |
I can't tell but I think the ones on his heels are under the skin and the ones on his toes are on top of the skin. Maybe I'll call the dr or send a pic to a family member who is a dr. |
Got it. Best of luck to him! |
I know this is an old thread but I was searching for something else and came upon this. Can someone tell me who spots under the skin are always cause for concern? |
It could be petechiae which can indicate a platelet issue. |
| It could be signs of a blood disorder or cancer too. |
|
Foot and mouth disease?
Whatever it is, just go talk to a doctor. |
| everything looks like cancer...idiots |
