ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Why would it still say TBD instead of the BY age ranges if the change is really happening in 2026?

I lost you. What could this mean?

The PP is trying to say that parents/kids who perhaps are worried that a switch from BY to SY will mean they lost their spot will be extra worried since ECNL hasn't said on this particular web page what the plan is for next season. It's soccer parent trash talk. That's all it is, because the reality is every season a roster spot is at risk and. If/when the BY/SY switch occurs -- there'll probably be a larger shift than usual as players and clubs look for that one-time advantage, but if things don't work out if you're already on a super high team, top league, you'll have options if not on the current team, then another club at a similar level. And again, that type of movement is common and happens each season.

Then the PP also mentioned the TBD for the 25/26 age groups on the US Club page. If nothing is changing for 25/26 as they’ve previously announced, why hasn’t that been filled in with BY age groupings? Unless there is a different plan? Announcement coming soon?

There is no plan for 25/26. It will remain BY. They will announce plan for 26/27, and give suggestions on how to best prepare for that switch.

Interestingly enough a BIG reason cited for waiting for 26/27 is because of not being able to have the web pages ready. So, this tracks.

what type of "suggestions" would US Club possibly have, for example? Keep it all BY and simply think ahead to what your SY teams will be the following year?

I'm beginning to think US Club is just messing with the overly passive-aggressive/yet-also-too-involved parent by not clarifying.

I generally assume incompetence instead of malice. At this point the funniest most predictable outcome would be "whoops we take it all back we're not changing anything when we got into the details it was too hard"

Right - something like for 25/26 mixed teams to anticipate what the age change is going to be a maybe even some more leeway in allowing trapped players to play down under the current system.

The problem with making adjustments for next year is ecnl clubs are hosting tryouts this month. California already hosted ecnl tryouts? North Carolina ecnl clubs host tryouts in February. Would those clubs just make adjustments to rosters if they decided to allow some early changes for a limited number of trapped players in 25/26?

They could make recommendations for pre-ecnl though? My kid is a fall 14. I think I'd like to understand soon if she is actually going to play U13 ECNL in 26, or not until 27.

The 25/26 lame duck year is such a waste to play for a team that won’t be together the following year. ECNL is currently meeting, so hoping for a screenshot or a leak for the 26/27 plan.

ECNL already allows trapped players to play down in the specific trapped year so this will not be anything new that is introduced. On the highly competitive national level teams in this area the trapped players often don't use this option as their regular team will continue with a full schedule through the year (HS is not given the same priority by competitive teams and players).

The good transition plan will allow 3/4 Q3/Q4 to play down this fall before a hard switch next year.
