By 3/2, we will know What ECNL is planning. It is weird that nothing is released officially from ECNL. You can tell how bureaucratic the USSF is. I hope Elon can do sth about it.

The clubs and coaches focusing on short term wins causes this problem.

And all switching to SY is just re-arranging the deck chairs.

Yes but I believe the thinking is kids in the same grade are more likely to stick around and continue to play because they are competing with kids from their class or graduating class. Compared to a kid who is smaller and playing against the grade above.

You can tell the BY crowd this over and over but to them they just don’t understand and purposefully disregard this. Any mention of why SY has more benefits just leads to them foaming at the mouth.

Mediocre Q1/Q2 players' parents hope ECNL postpone SY change as long as possible so their kids can stay on the ECNL team. Their worst nightmare is that ECNL drops the bomb to allow 3/4 of Q3/Q4 players to join their grade team this fall.

Not sure these Q3/Q4 kids (and their parents) are super excited about playing against younger players, even if they are in the same grade, after basically playing up their entire careers.

My kid is. Will get to move from top third to top 10th, get to play with players who aren't splitting time between high school practice

The ECNL symposium is this week, maybe something gets leaked out of there. I can imagine all in attendance will keep it quiet.

That's a good attitude to adjust. That said, teammates these days lead busy lives and may be splitting time between other sports, too, like basketball and/or futsal, not even counting any HS sports OR for even MS sports, which kids do, too.

If that gives you a moment of peace, why not. But wait for the Q3/Q4 GA girls to show up the moment ECNL reveals its plan for the coming fall.

Actually, it should help a top Q1 player to play with older kids on a team, so the sooner the change, probably the better. And actually, they've probably already played with those players from playing up, so there won't be any surprises.

Why would you think they would update that information before making their announcement at the end of February or early March? Especially when the age change isn’t expected to take place until Fall 2026.

I believe they are saying it’s suspicious because it’s been told that nothing would change for 25/26. If that’s the case, then no need to have TBD still listed. I still think it means nothing, but we’re just grasping at straws for any bit of info at this point.

TBD is the worst nightmare hanging over the BY. They pray nothing changes for 25/26 so their kids can survive another year in the NL team.

This is overly dramatic thinking. The change will affect teams but it will be more or less 1 big shift, where the q3/a4 kids bump down in all age groups. Yes, there will be those both player and club alike to use this to find better players, but that HAPPENS every year anyway. Long-term birth month advantages won't be seen largely by the current kids playing 11v11. If anything, it's the younger age groups who will be more affected, up to and including the very first group that starts at SY.

Maybe they were trying to say that TBD on the US Soccer age grouping is a nightmare for mediocre Q1 and Q2 because it could mean the age change may happen in 25, which shortens their time remaining on the top ECNL team. Why would it still say TBD instead of the BY age ranges if the change is really happening in 2026?
